They Ride Along "MAKE THEM PROUD"

06/05/2026

They rolled out this morning.
Kobus van Niekerk and his group left for the final 100km home today and the energy at the start was everything. This is the moment we have all been building toward. The last stretch. The final push. The finish line at Cradle Valley waiting at the end of it.
Go well Kobus. We are right there with you every pedal stroke of the way.
They Ride Along. Always.

This is exactly why we exist.

Next week we have the honour of hosting the final stretch of Kobus van Niekerk’s incredible ride from Wellington to Johannesburg. After everything this man has been through on the road, we want to make sure he does not ride those last 80 to 120km alone.

On the 6th or 7th of May, come join us. Bring your bicycle. Bring a friend. And come be part of something that is about so much more than riding.
Exact time will be confirmed closer to the date.

Meet us on the N14 towards Ventersdorp, just before Klerkskraaldam at the BOONS turn-off.

Kobus, we are coming for you. You are not finishing this alone.

This one hits different. 💙

Last year, Sylvia lined up at The Munga not just for herself — but for Craig. She carried his name across 1,148 km of Karoo, through the dust and the dark and the doubt, all the way to the finish line as our Lantern Rouge. The last one in. And one of the bravest.

She rode with They Ride Along — a movement born from grief and shaped by love, where those who have lost someone dear find the courage to keep pedalling. Because those we've lost don't leave us. They ride along.

And then came the moment that stopped us in our tracks.

Sylvia personally handed Craig's finisher medal to his mom, Patsy, and her husband. In person. Because some things are too important to do any other way.

Thank you for meeting with Sylvia! We just really wanted to hand the medal over in person. We are truly honoured to have walked this small part with you in Craig's journey. May God Bless your family and please know you are welcome to join us at the finish line this year!

This is what The Munga is really about. Not just the kilometres. Not just the medals. But the people. The stories. The love that refuses to stay quiet.

To Sylvia — you are an absolute legend. 🙏
To Patsy and her family — thank you for sharing Craig with us. He rode every kilometre with Sylvia. He always will.

You never ride alone. 🐉

They Ride Along is deeply woven into the fabric of The Munga. This isn’t just a partnership — it’s personal. Every kilometre ridden, every lock placed, every name remembered carries meaning far beyond the bike.

To every They Ride Along rider out there: well done. Truly. You rode with purpose, with heart, and with people in mind who could not be there themselves. Your courage, strength, and commitment honoured every story you carried with you.

We trust — and truly believe — that we make them proud.
Proud in the way you showed up.
Proud in the way you endured.
Proud in the way you rode for something bigger than yourselves.

Thank you for trusting The Munga with something so close to your hearts. You reminded us, once again, why this journey matters.

Part 3:

At Cailin’s Halfway Mark, there’s a place where the noise of the race fades… and the heart of The Munga speaks the loudest.

Here, among the wind and dust, lie the rocks — each one marked with the name of someone we’ve lost along the way. Riders. Family. Friends. People who shaped our community, carried our spirit, and left footprints we’ll never stop following.

Every rider who passes this point slows down — not because they’re tired, but because this place asks for a moment. A breath. A memory. A quiet nod to those who should still be here.

These rocks aren’t just stones.
They’re stories.
They’re legacies.
They’re reminders that we never ride alone.

To the families, to the friends, to the riders who carry these names in their hearts: we honour them. We remember them. And every pedal stroke from here to Bloem carries a little bit of their light.

This is the soul of The Munga.
Where the journey becomes bigger than the ride.
