Lace up your walking shoes & join us for the 13th Annual Home from Home Amble

This much-loved community event brings together supporters, families, and friends for a beautiful 10km walk along the coast from Scarborough to Kommetjie.

More than just a walk, the Amble is an opportunity to come together in support of the children and young people in Home from Home's care. This year's event aims to raise funds for school shoes, helping children start the 2027 school year feeling confident, prepared, and ready to learn.

Walkers will meet at the Scarborough Beach car park at 8:15am for an 8:30am start. Whether you're walking in memory of someone special, with friends and family, or simply looking for a meaningful way to spend your morning, we'd love to have you join us.

Happy Women's Day!

Today, we celebrate the incredible women who make Home from Home what it is. With 95% of our staff being women, their compassion, strength, and dedication are woven into everything we do.

To our foster mothers, caregivers, social workers, support staff, and every woman who chooses to care for and uplift others: thank you. You are the ones who show up for our children, even when no one is watching. You turn houses into homes and create family through love, patience, and unwavering commitment, day after day.

The world may not always see the countless acts of kindness, encouragement, and sacrifice that happen behind the scenes. But every child who has ever felt safe, seen, valued, and truly belonged because of you, sees it. And that is everything.

Today, we also honour women everywhere: mothers, daughters, sisters, mentors, teachers, leaders, friends, and changemakers who inspire hope, show courage, and make a difference in the lives of those around them.

This Women's Month, we honour the incredible women who nurture, lead, advocate, and love the vulnerable children in our care. From our foster mothers to our social workers and support teams, al working together to provide our children with a second chance at family.

Through our Transition Support Programme, we empower our youth with the skills and confidence they need to step into independent, hopeful futures.

Social workers are guardians of hope.

They walk alongside the children in our care daily, advocating for their rights, supporting families and providing emotional care.

This Child Protection Month, we honour the dedicated social workers who support our foster mothers and children and help make our foster homes places of healing, safety, and hope. Your work matters more than words can say. Thank you.

There are many kinds of mothers in this world. And then there is you.

You chose this. You opened your heart, and your life to children who have experienced so much loss. You love them on the hard days, and keep showing up consistently.

On this Mother's Day, we want you to know that what you do changes the course of a child's entire life. The children in your care may not yet have the words for it, but one day they will look back and know that you were the person who made all the difference.

Nobody protects a child alone.

At Home from Home, our foster homes are built inside the communities where our children come from. They grow up hearing their own language, surrounded by people who understand their culture and who they are. That's not a small thing. For a child who has already lost so much, it means everything.

But we couldn't do any of it without the communities who show up alongside us, consistently, quietly, and without being asked. The neighbours, the local churches, the ordinary people who help us give vulnerable children a second chance at family.

This Child Protection Month, we want to say thank you to every person who has ever looked out for a child that wasn't theirs. You are part of this, more than you know.

And if you see a child who needs help, say something. Do something. Be the person who didn't look away.

That's how children get protected. Not by systems. By people.

A child doesn't always say "I need help."

Sometimes they go quiet. Stop eating. Stop playing. Stop being themselves.

Sometimes they flinch when you reach for them. Sometimes they cling to you and won't let go.
