August is Women’s Month, a time to celebrate, honour, and appreciate the incredible women who continue to show us what strength, courage, and resilience truly look like.🌹

Women are the real fighters - izimbokodo in the truest sense.

Our very own SEF x GL2E women participants are the perfect example. When it came to clearing the bush, keeping the community clean, and tackling invasive alien plants, they didn't step back or say, "that is a man's job." They picked up heavy tools and got to work. Even those who had never handled such tools before didn't give up. They tried, adapted, and persevered until they got it right.

This Women’s Month, appreciate the women in your life, support their dreams, recognise their strength, and remind them of the incredible impact they have on those around them.

What a glamorous and inspiring night we had at the Anew Hotel in Hilton as we gathered to celebrate our incredible EnviroChamps business founders under the SEF × GL2E Programme.💚☘️

Our Top 5 capital quest business finalists took the stage to pitch their businesses, treating us to exciting live demonstrations and samples of their products and services. Each of the Top 5 capital quest pitchers walked away with R5,000 and a certificate, while our Top 3 received R2,000 for their outstanding progress in building viable business enterprises. Our Top 10 resellers were also recognized and encouraged to keep pushing forward, while our programme business support buddies and core buddies received thank you letters and certificates for their dedication. However, this celebration was more than prizes. It was about showing that you can start something with whatever little you have and turn it into something meaningful. It was a reminder to those dreaming of starting a business to take that first step, and to those who have already started to not give up as their breakthrough could be closer than they think.

The excitement did not end there as our five judges, who are business owners themselves, have volunteered to mentor our Top 5, helping them use their prize money wisely and grow their businesses. As of now, mentorship has already begun.

This night was a celebration of possibility, perseverance, and entrepreneurs who are turning their dreams into reality. A huge congratulations to our Top 5🏆🎉 You showed us that big dreams can start with small beginnings. Keep pushing, keep growing, and keep believing. We can’t wait to see what comes next.❤️

What an unforgettable day of learning, laughter, and green energy! 🌍💚

We had the absolute joy of being part of the Happy Earth Festival at the Botanical Gardens, and our hearts were so full after spending 2 days with curious, energetic young learners. Together, we explored why nature is so precious and why protecting our environment matters.

The day was packed with fun, hands-on activities across the gardens. Learners put their green knowledge to the test with True or False facts, raced through an exciting 30 Seconds challenge, and learned how to sort waste into reduce, reuse, recycle, compost, and landfill. They also brought the energy with dance challenges, joined in team games, and became stream scientists by discovering how miniSASS uses tiny water bugs to monitor river health.

The best part? Every learner who took part walked away with a special reward for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and willingness to learn.

A huge thank you to the Happy Earth Festival organisers, the dedicated teachers, and every incredible learner who made this day so special. The future looks a little greener because of days like these.

Entrepreneurship is not easy, it is not for the faint-hearted. In this journey, people start, some face stumbling blocks and quit, some start and life happens.

In the GL2E programme, Envirochamps were trained and encouraged to take part in the courses provided on starting businesses.

Today, we are proud to share that the initiative has helped 140 individuals establish businesses.

Today, we are not celebrating how much return they make; we are celebrating their courage to start and the tenacity to hold on against all the winds.

Meet Sharon Thusi, iphanta.🤟🏾

She is Business Management graduate from Pietermaritzburg. She also trained as a Care Giver in First Aid and Counselling. She additionally has a PSIRA CDE security certificate.

While waiting for her professional breakthrough, she joined the Green Learn to Earn programme.

She got her hands dirty in Agroecology, learned River Monitoring and built skills in NYRI & Digital Influence.
Sharon went from tending a small food garden… to becoming a Team leader.

“I gained more entrepreneurial skills here than I did in my degree, now I see talent in other youth and I want to help them grow under my guidance.”

We can’t change where we come from. But our future is our responsibility. One skill, one step at a time.

June is Youth Month in South Africa

Youth unemployment is at 45.8% for ages 15–34, and we can’t ignore that. But we can help shift mindsets.

Through our Green Learn to Earn programme we teach envirochamps practical skills in agroecology, entrepreneurship, waste management and more.
The goal: move from waiting for jobs to creating opportunities; whether that’s selling products, services, or your own expertise.

We’re seeing it work. More envirochamps are registering and running their own businesses.

We can’t change our past, but our future is ours to build. One skill, one step at a time.
