June is Youth Month in South Africa

Youth unemployment is at 45.8% for ages 15–34, and we can’t ignore that. But we can help shift mindsets.

Through our Green Learn to Earn programme we teach envirochamps practical skills in agroecology, entrepreneurship, waste management and more.
The goal: move from waiting for jobs to creating opportunities; whether that’s selling products, services, or your own expertise.

We’re seeing it work. More envirochamps are registering and running their own businesses.

We can’t change our past, but our future is ours to build. One skill, one step at a time.

We’re less than 2 months away from closing the chapter on our current Social Employment Fund X Green Learn 2 Earn pilot programme.

We were introduced to people from different worlds, all working toward one common goal: to improve their livelihoods.

Did we get every aspect of the programme right? Absolutely not. One challenge came after another. But did we give up? No!!

We understand that this work is bigger than us. It’s about the environment, the 1,000 people entrusted to be its custodians and the communities they live in.

Serving in different locations and doing different activities, all for one goal: greening the environment!!
So we say HATS OFF to all the envirochamps who stuck it through, even when the odds were against them.

Every training attended, every course completed, and every target achieved: that was all you. You did this.

Are we willing to give it another shot?
Most definitely!!

Equipping young leaders through the GL2E programme with the right tools, knowledge and confidence remains an important part of building stronger communities. 💪

The Pathways team hosted a valuable training session for our Learner Buddies, facilitated by Doni from Meta Consulting Business.
The session focused on ABCD — Asset Based Community Development, together with leadership skills and facilitation techniques.

Buddies were equipped with practical facilitation skills, engagement techniques and useful tips on how to confidently lead impactful sessions within their organisations and teams.

Beyond facilitation, the training encouraged young leaders to recognise the value of community-driven development, teamwork and the power of leading with purpose.

Creating spaces like these continues to strengthen the next generation of community leaders. 👏😇

Sonal is a 13-year-old swimmer from uMhlanga, making her the youngest member of the DUCT Oceans8 swimming team. 😎

She suffered a leg injury a while back, but her doctor has cleared her to return to open water swimming.

She has raised R5000 so far. Let’s help her raise even more before the event tomorrow. 👊🏽
