KHULUMA noHECTOR | TALK TO HECTOR 🇿🇦

On 16 June 1976, thousands of young people took to the streets to demand something many of us take for granted today: the right to quality education, dignity, and a future filled with opportunity. Many paid the ultimate price⚰️🕯️

Today, South Africa's Constitution protects children's rights through:
📖 Section 29 – the right to basic education.
🛡️ Section 28 – the right to protection from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and the right to have their best interests put first.

Yet many children still face violence, abuse, educational barriers, bullying, poverty, and other challenges that prevent them from reaching their full potential😥

At Incema NPO, we work every day to create safer spaces for children through awareness programs, behavioural programs, sexual and reproductive health education, gender-based violence prevention initiatives, and support services for vulnerable children and families👬🏾👩🏾‍🤝‍👨🏽👭🏽

As we commemorate Youth Day 2026, we want to hear from you:
💭 If Hector Pieterson and the youth of 1976 were standing in front of you today, what would you tell them about South Africa's progress?
💭 What would you thank them for?
💭 What would you ask them to keep fighting for?

Leave your message to Hector in the comments below. 👇🏾

Protecting children starts with informed communities, supportive families and collaborative action 💙

Following our Child Protection Webinar held in commemoration of Child Protection Week, Incema NPO is proud to share a blog article reflecting on the important conversations, shared knowledge and collective commitment demonstrated by all partners, stakeholders and community members who participated🙏🏾

Together with Masimanyane Women’s Rights International, Bethlehem Child & Family Welfare and Usizo Community Development Project, we explored critical issues affecting children today- from child abuse awareness and online safety to harmful sexual behaviour and positive parenting.
This collaboration reminded us that child protection is not a once-off conversation, but an ongoing responsibility that requires education, advocacy and community involvement every day.

We invite you to read, reflect and continue the conversation with us as we work towards creating safer, healthier and more supportive environments for every child🫂
