CERT CENTURION | IRENE

On Thursday afternoon at approximately 17:00, the CERT Centurion crew responded to a medical emergency at an office park in Irene.

Upon arrival, crews found that a female patient had experienced a seizure while attending a corporate function.

The patient was assessed and treated on scene by our medical crew. Following a thorough assessment, the patient elected to make use of private transport to proceed to a medical facility for further evaluation and treatment.

We would like to thank ER24 and EBS Security for their assistance and cooperation on scene.

Safety Tip:
Witnessing a seizure can be a frightening experience, but knowing what to do can make a significant difference. If someone is having a seizure, remain calm, move any potentially dangerous objects away from them, and protect their head from injury if possible. Do not attempt to restrain the person or place anything in their mouth. Once the seizure has stopped, gently turn them onto their side and remain with them until they have fully recovered or medical assistance arrives. If the seizure lasts longer than five minutes, if multiple seizures occur, or if the person is injured during the episode, seek emergency medical assistance immediately.

CERT CENTURION | RASLOUW

On Sunday afternoon at approximately 15:00, the CERT Centurion crew responded to an emergency at a residential home on a smallholding in Raslouw, Centurion.

A 73-year-old female patient had fallen at home and sustained a suspected hip fracture.

Our crew assessed the patient and initiated medical care while ensuring the injury was properly managed. The patient was subsequently transported under advanced paramedic care to a nearby hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.

We extend our sincere thanks to Emergency Medical Solutions for their assistance and support on scene.

Safety Tip:
A suspected hip fracture should always be treated as a serious medical emergency. If an elderly person falls and is unable to stand, complains of severe hip pain, or their leg appears shortened or rotated, avoid moving them unnecessarily and contact emergency services immediately. Moving a patient with a suspected hip fracture can worsen the injury and lead to additional complications. Keep the patient comfortable, warm, and reassured while awaiting professional medical assistance.

CERT CENTURION | ELDORAIGNE

On Monday afternoon, just after 17:00, our Centurion crew responded to a cycling accident in Kort Street, Eldoraigne.

A female cyclist fell from her bicycle while riding with her husband and sustained moderate injuries during the incident.

The patient was assessed and treated by our crew on scene before being transported to a nearby hospital by Emergency Medical Solutions ambulance in a stable condition under advanced paramedical care.

We would like to thank Emergency Medical Solutions for their assistance, as well as the various Good Samaritans from the local community who stopped to assist and support the patient while awaiting the arrival of emergency services.

Cycling Safety Tip: Always wear a properly fitted helmet when cycling, as it can significantly reduce the risk of serious head injuries. Cyclists should remain vigilant, obey traffic rules, stay visible, and be aware of their surroundings at all times.

Motorist Safety Reminder: Drivers are encouraged to remain alert and exercise caution when travelling on our roads. Always be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists, maintain a safe following distance, and take extra care when passing vulnerable road users.

Together, through awareness and consideration for one another, we can help make our roads safer for everyone.

🚑 Bringing Emergency Services to the Classroom 🚒

On 19 May, the CERT-Sa : VAAL Crew, ER24 EMS (Pty) Ltd. and Midvaal Fire Department had the privilege of visiting Disa Pre-Primary School in Meyerton to spend the day with the little ones, teaching them about the different emergency services and how we work together to keep our communities safe.

From exploring emergency vehicles to learning about firefighting and medical care, the day was filled with excitement, laughter, learning and memorable moments. The energy and enthusiasm from the children made the day incredibly special for every emergency worker involved.

The visit formed part of ongoing community outreach and education initiatives aimed at helping children better understand emergency services and feel more comfortable around first responders in times of need.

We would also like to thank all role-players who availed themselves to assist with the demonstrations and help create such a meaningful experience for the children.
