Some happy endings make our hearts absolutely burst! ❤️🐾

After spending almost a year waiting in a cage, this gorgeous, cuddly boy has finally found the loving home he deserves. And the best part? Two precious boys have found each other! 💝

We wish them endless happy days filled with love, warm laps, gentle cuddles and all the spoiling a kitty could ever wish for. 🥰

But while we celebrate this little success story, so many other beautiful souls are still waiting. Waiting for someone to notice them, fall in love with them and give them a place to call home.

En dan sê hulle dis net ’n dier

En dan sê hulle
dis net ’n dier.

Net ’n hond.
Net vier pote,
’n nat neus,
’n stert wat swaai
wanneer jy by die huis kom.

Maar verduidelik my dan
hoekom daardie stert
so anders begin swaai
wanneer hulle jou stem hoor?

Hoekom wag hulle by die deur
as hulle weet jy behoort nou enige oomblik
deur daardie hek te stap?

Hoekom raak hulle opgewonde
oor iets so eenvoudig
soos jou voetstappe in die gang?

Hoekom lê hulle langs jou
wanneer jy stil is,
sonder dat jy ’n woord sê?

Miskien omdat hulle verstaan
wat mense soms vergeet:

dat teenwoordigheid
ook liefde is.

En toe sterf my woef.

En mense sê:

“Hy was darem oud.”

Asof ouderdom
die leemte kleiner maak.

Asof ’n mens kan sê
“dit was net ’n hond”
en daarmee die jare
wat saam geleef is
kan wegvee.

Maar sy dood
was erg.

Want ’n huis verander
wanneer ’n hond nie meer daarin is nie.

Die stilte kry ’n ander klank.

Die plek waar hy gelê het
bly leeg.

Jy kyk soms nog
sonder om te dink
na die plek waar hy altyd was.

En vir ’n oomblik
verwag jy hom.

Dan onthou jy.

En daardie onthou
sny weer.

Maar die ding wat my die diepste getref het,
was nie net sy dood nie.

Dit was wat daarna gebeur het.

Sy dogter,
self al met grys om haar snoet,
self al oud,
self al ’n leeftyd geleef,

het by haar pappa se lyk
gaan sit.

Nie vir ’n minuut
omdat iemand haar geroep het nie.

Nie omdat sy moes nie.

Sy het net
daar gaan sit.

Naby hom.

Asof sy geweet het:

“Jy is nie meer hier nie.”

Sy het hom gesoek.

Sy het hom geruik.

Sy het by hom gebly.

En daar,
in daardie oomblik,
het iets in my verander.

Want ek het besef:

Miskien voel hulle
baie dieper
as wat ons ooit bereid is om te erken.

Miskien verstaan hulle verlies
sonder om die woord daarvoor te ken.

Miskien treur hulle
sonder om trane te hê.

Miskien neem hulle afskeid
op hulle eie manier.

Net soos ons.

Hulle kan nie vir ons sê:

“Ek gaan hom mis.”

Maar hulle loop deur die huis
en soek.

Hulle kan nie vra:

“Waar is pappa?”

Maar hulle kyk
by die plekke waar hy altyd was.

Hulle kan nie sê:

“Ek verstaan hy is weg.”

Maar hulle wag.

En soms
gaan lê hulle
op die plek waar die ander een
eens gelê het.

En miskien is dit
hulle manier om te rou.

So wanneer iemand weer sê:

“Ag, dis net ’n dier.”

sal ek anders kyk.

Want ek het gesien
hoe ’n hond haar pappa
se dood verstaan het.

Ek het gesien
hoe sy by hom gaan sit het.

En ek het besef:

Daar is dinge
wat nie met woorde bewys hoef te word nie.

Sommige harte
praat sonder stem.

Sommige liefde
loop op vier pote.

En sommige afskeide
word stil geneem,

langs ’n liggaam
wat eens jou hele wêreld was.

En dan sê hulle
dis net ’n dier.

Maar as jy al ooit
werklik deur ’n hond liefgehê is,

weet jy:

dit was nooit net ’n dier nie.

Dit was n beste vriend.

Dit was ’n deel van jou huis.

En wanneer daardie vier pote
vir die laaste keer stil word,

bly die voetspore
lank daarna
in jou hart...

Animal Care Team is opening a welfare animal clinic in Oudtshoorn in January, providing much-needed veterinary care for the animals of our community.

We still have a lot to do before we can open our doors — including purchasing essential veterinary equipment, instruments, a big freezer and other necessities — while the clinic rent continues to run.

Imagine spending the whole winter in a cage, waiting and hoping that somehow, by some miracle, someone will come along and choose you.

Someone who looks at you and says, “That’s my cat. That cat belongs beside my fireplace. That cat should be warm in my bed, not sitting in a cold cage.”

The beautiful cats below have been waiting six months to a year for their forever homes. They have spent the freezing cold and wet winter months in cages, still hoping that their person will walk through the door.

And now, summer is approaching here in Oudtshoorn. As unpleasant as those cold, wet winter months have been, we all know how scorching hot summer can become here. These babies will go from freezing cold and wet to sitting in the intense summer heat — still waiting for someone to choose them.

It breaks our hearts. 💔

We are desperately hoping that some kind, loving people will step forward and say:

“No more waiting. This baby is coming home with me.”

Please help save these babies. They need homes. They need loving forever homes. ❤️

🐾 ANIMAL DAY 2026 – WHAT A SUCCESS! 🐾

What an incredible day in Oudtshoorn! ❤️ Thanks to our amazing community, we were able to provide vital care to so many animals — including 150 rabies vaccinations, 56 vaccinations, 74 dewormings and microchipping, plus lots of grooming and TLC!

With 50+ stalls, 30+ prizes, delicious food, crafts and entertainment from Eden FM, it was a fantastic day from start to finish.

A massive thank you to everyone who volunteered, sponsored, donated, had a stall, provided services or simply came along to support us. We couldn't have done it without you!

🐶🐱 But our work doesn't stop here.
