Taking hands to keep children safe 💚
Yesterday, members of the Western Cape Department of Social Development visited the Inceba Trust team to share important updates on how to report and refer children who may be at risk of abuse or neglect.

This included an introduction to the SWIMS App, a tool that helps social workers manage and track cases more effectively.

We’re grateful for opportunities to learn, strengthen our processes and work alongside DSD to help keep children safe. 🤝💚

Voices of Partnership | How can we help more women working in ECD succeed?
This Women’s Month, we’re celebrating the women who nurture, teach, guide and inspire young children every day, and the partners who believe in investing in them.

In the final post of our Voices of Partnership series, we hear from Mariza Lubbe from Remgro, one of our valued partners supporting Inceba Trust’s work in Kayamandi.

Mariza reminds us that supporting ECD means investing not only in infrastructure and resources, but in the women at the heart of the sector.

Here are her words:
“Women working in Early Childhood Development (ECD) play a vital role in shaping children’s futures and strengthening communities. Business and civil society can help them succeed by investing not only in ECD infrastructure and learning resources, but in the women themselves.

Quality training, mentorship, practical business skills and access to support networks can empower ECD practitioners to build sustainable centres and meaningful careers. Collaboration between business, civil society and government can further strengthen the ECD ecosystem and ensure that support reaches communities where it can have the greatest impact.

Investing in women in ECD creates a powerful multiplier effect: it promotes women’s economic empowerment, strengthens families and communities, and improves educational outcomes for children. Supporting these women is therefore not only an investment in ECD, but an investment in South Africa’s future human potential.”

Teachers from our Inceba-supported ECD centres in Kayamandi recently received First Aid training.

For teachers working with young children, first aid is an important part of creating a safe and caring learning environment. The right knowledge can help them respond quickly and calmly when accidents or emergencies happen.

We want to commend these teachers for investing in their skills and for choosing to make the health and safety of the children and their colleagues a priority.👏

Women of Hope | Meet Althea Cupido
Every ECD centre has a story. This month we're celebrating the women whose belief in children is shaping their futures every day.

Meet Althea Cupido of Jumpstart Educare in Wellington. What brings her the most joy?
“Seeing their confidence grow, because every child develops in their own way.”

For Althea, the challenges of working in ECD are also opportunities to grow, do more and do better. Her greatest hope is that every child who walks through her doors knows that they are special, that they have a purpose and that they are loved.

Stories of Hope | Making time for each other. 💜
Our Book-sharing programme is about more than reading a story. It’s about making time for each other.

For Hildegard Maans, a book-sharing participant, it has become a special part of her time with her little one:
“It’s really strengthened my bond with my little one. She’s much more curious now, asks a lot of questions about the pictures, and actively looks forward to our reading time together.

Just having that quiet, uninterrupted time together. Seeing her face light up when we read her favourite parts or when she learns a new word is incredibly special.

Make the time, even if it’s just 10 minutes a day. Put the distractions away. Those small, quiet moments build trust and memories that last way longer than whatever else you had on your schedule.”

This Women's Month, we're celebrating women like Hildegard who are creating moments of learning, trust and joy, one story at a time.

Ready to respond when it matters ❤️
Teachers from Inceba-supported ECD centres in Ritchie recently took part in Paediatric CPR and First Aid training.

In an ECD setting, knowing what to do when a child is injured or becomes unwell can make a real difference. First Aid training gives teachers practical knowledge and the confidence to respond calmly and appropriately in an emergency.

We’re proud of these teachers for taking the time to strengthen their skills and for making the health and safety of the children in their care, as well as their colleagues, a priority. 👏

Because creating safe spaces for young children starts with being prepared to care for them when it matters most.
