Every day at the SOSF Shark Education Centre (SOSFSEC), we’re reminded that kids are some of the most curious (and honest) ocean explorers out there. They don’t tiptoe around big questions or worry about sounding silly. They ask what they’re genuinely wondering… and when it comes to sharks, that leads to some of the best conversations we have. From these thoughtful and sometimes hilarious conversations, we have compiled a list of some of the most common and memorable questions and comments children ask us about the ocean and marine life.

Welcome to Marine Explorers! Last week, our learners from Fairmount Secondary School stepped foot into Miller’s tidal pool for their very first snorkel with Pisces Divers ! It was a really fun day with lots of starfish and sharks! Next session, we go straight to the open ocean! 🦈💙

Happy World Ocean Day! 🦈🐋🪸🐠

Today, we celebrate our oceans and everything they offer us. From the oxygen we breathe and the food we eat, to recreation, livelihoods, culture, and connection, the ocean supports life on Earth in more ways than we often realise.

The ocean covers more than 70% of Earth, regulates our climate, and is home to an incredible diversity of life. Yet despite its importance, our oceans continue to face growing threats.

Protecting the ocean starts with understanding it, appreciating it, and recognising that its future is deeply connected to our own too.

Today, we encourage you to take a moment to appreciate the ocean... whether that’s by learning something new, reducing your impact in a small way, supporting conservation, or simply spending time by the sea.
