Early Learning Resource Unit (ELRU)

Early Learning Resource Unit (ELRU) ELRU specialises in early childhood development (ECD) for vulnerable children, from conception to age 6. ELRU offers three flagship ECD Programmes: 1.

Programmes include home visits, Playgroups & Whole Centre Development, supporting pregnant women, primary caregivers, ECD practitioners & Principals. The Early Learning Resource Unit (ELRU) works in under-resourced urban and rural communities to address the immediate needs of young children ages 0โ€“6 and ensure that every child has access to quality Early Childhood Development (ECD) opportunities.

ELRU provides support, formal training, mentoring and coaching to pregnant women, primary caregivers, ECD practitioners and Principals while our Programmes facilitate access to services that are essential for early childhood development: nutrition, stimulation for early learning, maternal and child health, referrals to social services, and support for the primary caregiver. By strengthening the position of adults that surround the child through each age and developmental stage, young children are supported with a comprehensive foundation from conception, and enabled to thrive on their journey towards formal schooling in Grade R. Home visiting Programme (First 1000 days/conception to age 2)2. Playgroups Programme (ages 3โ€“5)3. Whole Centre Development Programme (ages 0โ€“6)ELRU's head office is in Lansdowne, Cape Town and we have ECD projects in the Western Cape and Northern Cape Provinces of South Africa.Bank details:Cape Educational Trust t/a Early Learning Resource UnitStandard BankBusiness Cheque Account: 072896604Swift code: SBZAZAJJ (international donors)If you have made a donation and would like a Section 18A tax receipt, please send an email to [email protected] or call 021-762 7500

Child Protection Week is a call to action: silence is not safety. ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ

Children cannot protect themselves from harm, exploitation, or neglectโ€”they depend on the adults around them to notice, speak up, and act. Protection means creating environments where children are safe from violence, unsafe touch, neglect, and fear, and where concerns are never ignored or normalised.

In CLTP 2.0, we reinforce that safe caregiving is activeโ€”it listens, it responds, and it does not look away. Every child has the right to grow up safe, supported, and free from harm.

Today we celebrate World Play Day by honouring what children do bestโ€”play.

Through Caregiver Learning Through Play (CLTP 2.0), we are reminded that play is not โ€œjust funโ€ โ€” it is how children learn, connect, express emotions, and build the foundations for lifelong learning. When caregivers engage in play, every moment becomes an opportunity for growth, bonding, and development.

Letโ€™s continue to create safe, joyful spaces where children can explore, imagine, and thrive through play.

Today we celebrate Family Day by honouring the people who make a childโ€™s world feel safe, seen, and supported. ๐Ÿ’›

In CLTP 2.0, we recognise that families are a childโ€™s first teachers. Through everyday momentsโ€”talking, laughing, playing, and simply being presentโ€”caregivers shape confidence, language, and emotional wellbeing.

Strong families build strong foundations for learning and life. Letโ€™s keep showing up for our children with love, time, and intention.

Our incredible volunteers are hard at work packing nutritious meals for children who need them most๐Ÿš

Every scoop, seal, and box packed is more than just a meal - it is hope, dignity, nourishment, and a brighter future for a child.

Proper nutrition is essential for children to learn, grow, play and together we are helping ensure that more young children have the healthy start they deserve.

To every volunteer giving their time and energy today: thank you for showing the power of community in action๐Ÿงก

When we come together, we can help build a future where no child has to learn on an empty stomach.
