The Story of Bramber Garden 🌿

When Eric and Gloria Robinson moved to Hogsback in 2018, Bramber was a very different place.

The property had been neglected for 15 years, and much work was needed to restore the buildings and bring the infrastructure back to life.

There was no garden as such — just a jungle of overgrown shrubs, trees and grass. Even the magnificent mountain view was hidden behind a dense pine forest.

Then, in 2020, the gardening began.

Working patiently, area by area, Eric and Gloria developed the existing framework of trees and gradually transformed the landscape.

150 azaleas. 100 hydrangeas. 120 roses. 🌸🌹

Today, Bramber is a beautiful interplay of open spaces and shaded woodland, framed by magnificent trees and crowned by that spectacular Hogsback mountain view.

A garden shaped by patience, vision and love — and a wonderful story of before and after. 🌺🌸🌿☀️☀️☀️☀️

“Unique”

Adjective: being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else.

Our Hogsback Open Gardens fit that definition perfectly.

Their sheer scale can leave you slightly lightheaded. They are vast. They sprawl. And yet… you never seem to tire of wandering through them. They are never repetitive. Never ordinary.

The acidic soil, a legacy of more than a century of pine plantations, has created the perfect home for exuberant azaleas and rhododendrons. Colour explodes in every direction. Pure eye candy.

You meander along cobbled paths and soft forest trails before settling beneath a magnificent ancient copper beech. As you gaze up at this patriarch of the forest, a thought quietly enters your mind:

“You’ve been here for so much longer than I have…”

And, if you listen carefully, the tree whispers back:

“I am Time made visible.
Take a good look.
You are very young.”

Come and experience gardens that simply cannot be replicated—gardens shaped by history, forest, climate, and generations of passionate gardeners.
