In the beginning, the ladies carried everything they needed for the duration of the walk. Now, we camp at Die Dam
for the period we are walking, carrying what we need for the day's walk. Lighthouse 2 Lighthouse is not a charity itself, but a vehicle to raise money for registered causes. Every cent we collect is handed over to the charity of choice. The choice of the charity to benefit is an open process and we call for proposals from all NGO & NPO's in the area. The ladies that are walking vote for the beneficiary they want to support. The runner-up receives an amount from the proceeds of our official practice walk held before the main walk. In order to raise this money, each lady who wishes to walk Lighthouse 2 Lighthouse, has to collect sponsorship of a minimum of R4 000.00 in order to participate. Some of the ladies raise a lot more than this, using their skills and talents to achieve their targets. We also appeal to businesses in the community, to assist us in reaching our target. Lighthouse 2 Lighthouse Ladies has become a very valued and respected group of women in the Overstrand community. We feel a sense of pride both in our achievements on the long and sometimes difficult walk, as well as in the good we do for the needy of our community.
