EPHESUS: Steve was recently in Turkey doing some Bible teaching. One of the highlights was bringing to life the riot in Ephesus in Acts 19:23-41, and in particular V29...."and all of them rushed into the theatre together". Check out what the theatre looks like today!

In approximately 55AD, when Mark was writing his gospel, he had no idea that there would one day be a global church. The Word of God, as Jesus promised, has spread to so many tribes and nations. But we want the branches of this tree to spread even further. There are still over 1.5 billion people who cannot read this verse in their mother tongue - and we need your help to reach them.

What happens when Bible translators have to translate something that is completely unfamiliar to their audience?
Barry Funnell, Vice President of Quality Assurance and Acceleration, shared:
“Things like unknown animals can be substituted with something similar in the culture if they are being used as figures of speech e.g. Revelation 13 verse 2: ‘The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear’ – a bear is not familiar to some, so hyena was used in the Chisena translation.”

One of our translation teams suffered the very great loss of one of their translators recently. He was arrested and killed for taking part in Bible translation. The director shared with us:
“We are not simply translators, consultants, technicians, or administrators. We are husbands and wives, parents, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, pastors and friends. We have fears and weaknesses, but we also have a deep conviction that God's Word is needed among every people and in every language.
Knowing that people who live thousands of miles away are praying for our team, our families, and the communities we serve gives us tremendous encouragement.”
Please continue to encourage our brothers and sisters by praying for their safety, but also for the incredible work they are doing to spread the gospel to every nation on earth.

Bringing the Bible to life: Pergamum - Revelation 2 v 12-17

Listen to Steve reading from Revelation 2 in the very spot where Pergamum was located, a church that was remaining true to Christ, but where some had been taken in by false teaching. He is enjoying teaching the group from Oak Hall Expeditions in actual Biblical locations, digging deep into Scripture together.

Oral Bible translation differs from traditional written Bible translation because it focuses on oral-preference communities and people who primarily learn, communicate and preserve knowledge through spoken rather than written language. Oral translation creates accurate, natural and community-tested Scripture audio recordings that are designed to be heard, understood, remembered and shared. This approach often enables Scripture to reach language communities more quickly, and in some contexts, more safely.

She said: ‘When people receive God’s Word in a way that fits their language and their culture, it becomes something they can carry with them, live out, and pass on to others.’
