Hermanus Waldorf School and College is a registered independent school in Sandbaai Hermanus, serving the communities of Mount Pleasant and Zwelihle

Hermanus Waldorf School is situated 5 minutes from the centre of Hermanus, in Sandbaai, close to Zwelihle and Mount Pleasant. The school began as an integrated Kindergarten at the Camphill School in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in 1994. As the children reached primary school age, a class one was started in rented accommodation within Camphill. In July 2001, the whole school moved to our present location, a 2-hectare plot leased from the Hermanus Municipality in Sandbaai on a 99 year lease. At the end of 2021 we had 200 children in the school. We have two Kindergarten classes and the Primary School goes up to Class 7. In 2023, we will have our first Class 8 group!

Hermanus Waldorf College students are currently writing their first year exams (Level 2) of Technical College and it has been an exciting year. The College was born as an extension of Hermanus Waldorf School through the generous donations of EMS Foundation and German funding facilitated by Freunde der Erziehungskunst. Registered with Department of Higher Education as an institute to offer Vocational Training in two industries. Electrical and Health Care. These are skills focused to prepare students for the work place in an effort to adress unemployment amongst school finishers. Students have learnt basic Electrical Principles and to instal Solar panels. The Health Care students gained practical experience in Health Care , First aid and more.

Waldorf breaks new ground

Waldorf School Hermanus is breaking new ground with vocational training designed to help learners move from strong academic results into meaningful employment.

Registered in August, the Sandbaai school has enrolled its first Grade 10 cohort, beginning a three-year programme in January. Learners will train in Primary Health Care or Electrical Infrastructure and Construction, alongside core subjects and computer technology.

Entrepreneurship training and workplace internships will also form part of the offering. The initiative aims to equip young people with skills.

As we were ending school term three, we celebrated in style. Our leaners bloomed in bright spring colour and showcased their beautiful cultural attire. It was a joyful day filled with colour, culture and smiles.

We are accepting applications for a Foundation Phase Teacher (currently Grade 3) to start Term 3, 22 July. Applications accepted via email or by hand. Closing date 16 June.

Our TVET College Electrical Infrastructure students put their Theory to Practice in our Workshop this week. Learning the basics of wiring.

In January we started with our TVET College offering Primary Health and Electrical Infrastructure and Construction. Our Electrical students have been hard at work the last few months learning about Electrical Principles. Today they started soldering cicuits in our specially equipped Workshop and success!
