💜 Motivational Monday | A little wobble, a lot of love

A few months ago, little Vlooi was found alone, frightened and painfully underweight. Today, she’s sharing cuddles with Mina at Uitkomst Cat Sanctuary. 🐾

Vlooi lives with Cerebellar Hypoplasia, also known as Wobbly Cat Syndrome. Her steps may be unsteady, but her enthusiasm for life—and a cosy cuddle—is unmistakable.

There’s something special about seeing a kitten who started life alone now curled up beside a friend. Sometimes, progress looks like finding your feet. Sometimes, it looks like feeling safe enough to rest. 💜

As we begin a new week, let Vlooi and Mina remind us: we all need a little kindness, a safe place to land, and someone beside us along the way.

Keep going, at your own pace. Every little step counts.

🍼 Tiny paws, big needs 🐾

These little ones came into our care last week, so new to the world that their umbilical cords were still attached. They are so tiny that their foster mom’s hand can almost cover the whole little bundle. ❤️

We currently have about 30 kittens in foster care, and we expect more to need our help as kitten season reaches its peak.

We’re asking for donations of kitten milk formula and kitten mousse to help keep their little tummies full. Milk formula feeds our tiniest babies, while mousse helps those ready to start weaning.

If you can donate supplies, please send us a message to arrange your donation. Alternatively, a financial contribution towards their food would be greatly appreciated. 🐱

🐾 Thankful Thursday: 44 Cats, One Caring Community 💚

A little overdue, but certainly worth celebrating — 44 cats sterilised in September!

During September, 44 cats were trapped, sterilised and returned at various locations through our donor-funded TNR operations. Each operation helps prevent unwanted litters and improves the lives of community cats. ❤️

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated trapping team — Stan, Charlene, Marinda and Johan — for the time, patience and care that go into making these operations possible. So much happens behind the scenes, and we are truly grateful for your commitment. 🙏

To our anonymous donor, thank you for your continued support and for enabling us to keep making a difference. Your generosity helps turn our efforts into lasting change for these cats. 💚

🧡🐾 WELLNESS WEDNESDAY: WHEN DOES A COMMUNITY CAT NEED HELP? 🐾🖤

Community cats are resilient, but even our street-smart little friends can become sick or injured. Because they often hide signs of pain, knowing what to look for can make a world of difference! 🐱

🔎 Keep an eye out for:
🧡 Not eating, sudden weight loss, or unusual thirst.
🖤 Hiding more than usual, extreme tiredness, or sudden behaviour changes.
🧡 Limping, wounds, swelling, or signs of pain.
🖤 Runny eyes or nose, squinting, or cloudy eyes.
🧡 Persistent coughing, sneezing, or difficulty breathing.
🖤 Bald patches, sores, scabs, or a neglected coat.
🧡 Straining to urinate or defecate or blood in urine or stool.
🖤 Unusual lumps, bumps, or swelling.

🚨 PLEASE DON'T IGNORE THE WARNING SIGNS!

If you notice any of these symptoms, contact a local animal rescue or veterinarian for advice. Difficulty breathing, heavy bleeding, collapse, or straining to urinate with little or no urine needs urgent veterinary attention.

Even if you can't rescue every cat yourself, reporting a concern can help get a cat the care it needs. ❤️

🐾 Behind the Bowls: A Feeding Round with HFCR 💧

Retreat, Garfield's, Salon, Caravan, Carl’s Place, Farm House… each feeding station has a name, and each one means a familiar place where community cats can find food, clean water and someone looking out for them. 💚

Today, we’re sharing a glimpse of some of our longest-established and largest colonies.

A feeding round takes around two to three hours, as our feeders make their way between stations, replenish food bowls and put out fresh, clean water.

It’s also a chance to notice who has arrived for their meal, who might be missing and whether a cat may need help. Over time, our feeders get to know the familiar faces waiting at each stop. 🐈

Behind these photos is a routine repeated with patience and dedication — because the cats depend on it.
