Some happy endings are worth waiting for. Over a year ago, Muffin arrived at AACL – Durban & PMB Branch. He was fragile, facing more challenges than any kitten should. He had a hernia, a leg deformity, and during those first few weeks, there were moments when we simply were not sure if he would make it. But Muffin had other plans. He fought. He persevered. He grew. Day by day, this little cat showed us what resilience looks like. Despite every obstacle that life placed in his path, Muffin remained gentle, loving, and endlessly sweet.
And somewhere along the way, Tuna found her way into his story. Tuna came to us after being rescued from a bottle store, where she was being chased and living in fear. Life had taught her that people could not always be trusted. Learning to feel safe again took time, patience, and courage. Then she met Muffin. What started as a friendship grew into a bond that melted all of our hearts. Two cats with very different beginnings, finding comfort, confidence, and companionship in one another.
When Muffin's mom, Coal, was recently adopted, we worried about how he would cope with such a big change. But Muffin surprised us once again. He adapted, leaned on his best friend, and continued to flourish. From that day on, we quietly hoped that whoever came for Muffin would also see Tuna. We hoped that someone would understand that some friendships are simply too precious to break apart. And then that someone came.
Today, our hearts are overflowing as we celebrate not one adoption, but a family choosing to open their home and hearts to both Muffin and Tuna 🎉 Thank you for seeing them. Thank you for seeing beyond Muffin's physical challenges and recognising the incredible cat he has become. Thank you for giving Tuna the chance to continue her journey of trust and healing in a home filled with love. And thank you for keeping them together.
As Muffin leaves for his forever home, he leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind a lesson. There was a time when we were not sure that he would see tomorrow. Today, we are watching him step into the life that we always dreamed for him. The tiny kitten we fought for, worried over, celebrated, and loved is finally going home.
Muffin taught us that healing is not always perfect. That strength does not always roar. Sometimes it looks like a kitten with a crooked leg and an unbreakable spirit. And sometimes it looks like two rescue cats finding each other when they need it most.
Thank you, Muffin, for fighting. Thank you, Tuna, for learning to trust again. Thank you both for reminding us why we do this. We will miss you terribly, but there is no greater joy than watching animals who were once unwanted, frightened, injured, or uncertain walk into lives filled with love. Be happy, little ones. You earned every bit of this ending 💚
