The Executive Welfare Council of the AFM of SA (now referred to as AFM Welfare) is the official Welfare Department of the AFM Church. It was established and registered as a National Welfare Council in 1945 – making it one of the oldest and most reputable welfare organisations in South Africa. Some of the most significant challenges people in South Africa face are poverty, crime, family breakdown,

AIDS, substance abuse and addiction and violence against women, children and older persons. At the heart of AFM Welfare is the desire to care for and protect, to uplift and develop and to lend a helping hand to those in need. The focus of AFM Welfare was previously on the establishment and management of institutions for children and older persons. The uMephi Child Protection Programme gives four hundred and fifty (450) children in need of care and support a home and a family, regardless of race, religion or nationality – across eight Provinces in South Africa. We also make provision for the care and protection of frail older people in 4 facilities – Touwsriver, Sarepta, Kuilsriver and Vue de Cap. We are proud of our 5 Retirement Villages in Pretoria, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein and Cape Town – that remain a popular choice for people over the age of 50 years. While retaining the important services that we offer to older persons and children in institutions, our future vision includes the expansion of our uManelisi Community Development Programme – working with and through churches for reaching and impacting South African communities. We believe the church is ideally positioned to bring needed change to the lives of many people across South Africa. Working with and through churches nation-wide, equipping them with practical tools and programmes for community involvement, stands centre-stage.

🌿 DAY 7 | Child Protection Week 2026 🌿

If you suspect a child is being abused, neglected, or living in an unsafe environment, do not ignore it.

Children often depend on the adults around them to notice, speak up, and take action on their behalf. Reporting concerns can feel difficult, but staying silent can leave a child at continued risk.

One caring adult can change a child's future. 🤍

// DAY 6 | Child Protection Week 2026 🌿

Children often communicate distress through their behaviour before they ever find the words to ask for help.

Changes in mood, withdrawal, fearfulness, declining school performance, unexplained injuries, or signs of neglect may be warning signs that a child needs support.

A caring adult who notices, listens, and acts can change a child's future. 🤍

📌 Save this post to help you recognise the warning signs. 📲 Share it to help raise awareness and protect vulnerable children.

// DAY 5 | Child Protection Week 2026 🌿

Strong families help build safe children. 🤍

One of the most powerful ways to protect children is to support the families they belong to. When parents and caregivers are equipped, encouraged, and supported, children are more likely to grow up in stable, nurturing, and protective environments.

This Child Protection Week, let us support, encourage, and strengthen families wherever we can. 👏✝️

// DAY 3 | Child Protection Week 2026 🌿

Every child should grow up protected, loved, heard, and cared for. 🤍

South Africa’s Constitution and the Children’s Act recognise children as deserving of special protection, dignity, and care. Every child has the right to safety, education, healthcare, emotional support, and an environment where their best interests come first.

Children’s rights are not just words written into law — they are responsibilities we must live out daily within our homes, churches, schools, and communities. Child protection is a Kingdom responsibility 👑✝️

Let us continue building communities where children are safe, valued, and protected. 🌱

AFM Family,

// CHILD PROTECTION: A KINGDOM RESPONSIBILITY 👑✝️

Child Protection Week (29 May-5 June) reminds us that caring for children is a Kingdom responsibility - and not only a social responsibility. Throughout Scripture, God also reveals His heart for the vulnerable, the broken, and the voiceless. As the Church, we are called to reflect that heart through compassion, protection, and practical care.

AFM Welfare encourages every assembly and believer to prayerfully consider the role we can play in creating safer environments for children in our homes, churches, and communities.

At AFM Welfare, we see both the pain and the resilience of vulnerable children every day. We currently care for 446 children across 34 Child and Youth Care Centres and 13 Foster Homes nationwide. This includes babies, older children, and children with severe disabilities who entered our care because of abuse, neglect, abandonment, or unsafe circumstances. This number reflects the formal national welfare projects coordinated through AFM Welfare. Across the wider Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa, acts of care and protection are taking place every day through local AFM Assemblies: feeding schemes, family strengthening, emergency support, counselling, child protection responses, and community outreach. Together, this combined footprint reveals a living network of compassion.

Compassion must move beyond words into action. As believers, may we continue to build communities where children are protected, families are strengthened, and the love of Christ is made visible through our care for the most vulnerable among us.

Yours in Christ!
