Dear Sello Seitlholo

This is the beginning, not the end.

Leadership shifts, but the work doesn’t — and Water has never answered to political cycles.

What looks like a removal is actually a release: a transition into a space where impact is no longer shaped by party dynamics, but by clarity, science, and systems logic.

The constraints are gone. The runway is open.

And the work ahead is bigger than any title.

You’re still undoubtedly my hero — walking where few ever dare to tread, seeing what most will never have the courage or clarity to witness.

But more than all of that, the Water saw YOU! Your integrity, your sacrifice, your heart wide open.

This isn’t a fall..

It is with great sadness that on 30 June 2026, I receive official communication from the President of the Republic of South Africa, His Exellency Cyril Ramaphosa, that I will no longer serve as Deputy Minister of the Department of Water and Sanitation. I have so many of you to thank for the knowledge and support you’ve provided to me in the last two years. Benoit Le Roy, I have religiously followed your advice and your work in order to improve myself and my work. Tarryn Johnston, the conversations and guidance have been absolutely invaluable.

I want to mention many of you here but I’m a bit too emotional now so let’s meet in the comments please 🙏.

Always nice to see recognition of our environmental warriors. Thank you Makhado for Soulbent for this beautiful gesture!

It's the small things that count. Except today it wasn't small - Mashudi Makhado of Soulbent NPO planted a tree in honour of individuals that have made an environmental difference. I was blown away that he named me as one of them amongst names like Tarryn Johnston; Willem Snyman, Storm & Igor Kolodziejczyk, Cetric Mphofela; Helen & Anthony Duigan
