NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH DAY | YOUR MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS

Behind every smile, there may be a story we cannot see. Today, we are reminded that mental health is just as important as physical health, and no one should have to struggle in silence.

DID YOU KNOW?
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly 1 in 7 people worldwide were living with a mental disorder in 2021.

Depression and anxiety are among the most common mental health conditions, affecting people across all ages and backgrounds.

In South Africa, stigma, limited access to mental health services and fear of judgment can make it harder for people to seek the support they need.

Let’s break the stigma, check in on our friends, listen without judgment and remind one another that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Your feelings are valid. Your life matters. You are not alone.

CALL TO ACTION: Check in on someone today. Start the conversation. Share this message. And if you are struggling, please reach out to someone you trust or a qualified mental health professional.

The To***co Control Bill was introduced to strengthen public-health protection. As clause-by-clause deliberations continue, every proposed change must be measured against that purpose.

Our position is simple: a public-health Bill should emerge from Parliament at least as capable of protecting public health as when it entered. Weakening its core protections would undermine the very purpose it was introduced to serve.

Know the Bill. Follow the deliberations. Pay attention to what changes.

To***co use remains the second-leading behavioural risk factor for cardiovascular disease deaths, making to***co control an important part of protecting heart health.

This World Heart Day, SATFYF calls for greater protection from exposure to to***co and ni****ne products and the health harms associated with them. Young people deserve environments that protect their health and their future.

This is why we continue to advocate for strong to***co-control measures and the advancement of the To***co Control Bill (2022).

Your heart deserves more than just a beat, it deserves protection.

This , we Stood Firmly with Science, Not Industry Misinformation!

The evidence is clear: e-cigarettes are not harmless, and delaying regulation puts young people at grave risk.

When the to***co industry says “the science isn’t there,” what they really mean is: regulation threatens profits. We refuse to gamble with our generation’s health.

The To***co Control Bill NEEDS to be passed! Young people DESERVE to be protected! The science EXISTS!

World TB Day 2026: Yes! We Can End TB

South Africa continues to carry one of the highest TB burdens globally - with an estimated 249,000 people falling ill and over 54,000 lives lost in 2024 alone.

While progress is being made, too many people are still missed, undiagnosed, or left behind.

Through the National TB Recovery Plan, South Africa is accelerating testing, prevention, and treatment to close these gaps and get back on track to end TB.

But we cannot ignore one of the biggest risk factors: to***co use. Smoking damages the lungs, weakens immunity, and significantly increases the risk of TB infection, severe disease, and death.

Ending TB means addressing all its drivers.

This World TB Day, we reflect: are we doing enough to protect our communities, especially young people, from both TB and to***co?

The right to health is a human right. Protecting people - especially the youth, from to***co and ni****ne harm is not optional, it’s essential and urgent. It’s time to put people before profit.

Our Year-End Webinar, “Unfinished Business: 2025 in Review, 2026 in Focus,” was a powerful reminder that youth advocacy remains central to advancing to***co control in South Africa.

We are grateful to our speakers, ambassadors, partners, and all participants who joined us to reflect on the year, unpack the To***co Control Bill, and prepare for the work ahead. Your voices, engagement, and commitment fuel this movement.

As we head into the festive season and look toward 2026, we remain united in our call for stronger protections, informed communities, and a smoke-free generation in our lifetime.
