These three tote bags were made from a baggy pants donated to UpswingSA. When I first looked at the pants i loved the strong cotton fabric but a closer inspection led me to discover the drawings were of buildings designed by . I was then left with the dilemma: do I showcase the work or use the fabric for cleaning rags? As you can see I went with the first option.
As part of month we could learn a bit about our colonial past. Exactly who he was in I have no clue but I do know that as a privileged British architect he got the jobs to design some of the important buildings in South Africa. Most known to me is the Union Buildings in Pretoria and St George's Cathedral in Cape Town. And a quick Google search told me that he attended .
At least the fabric got a and maybe you learned something about our history.
