There is a frightening moment in a person’s spiritual journey, not when they first fall into sin, but when they stop being grieved by it.
What once made you repent now makes you shrug, what once convicted your heart now feels ordinary, what once caused you to run to God now barely makes you look up. And that is how a heart becomes hardened..not all at once, but little by little.
A compromise here, a justification there.
A conviction ignored, a warning dismissed... A sin repeated until it no longer feels like sin.
The most dangerous thing about a hardened heart is that it can still look religious on the outside while becoming numb to God on the inside. We must be careful...
Because when sin becomes normal, holiness begins to feel extreme. When compromise becomes comfortable, obedience begins to feel inconvenient. When we silence the conviction of the Holy Spirit long enough, we may eventually mistake His silence for His approval.
But beloved, God is still calling us back...
Teshuvah is not merely crying over what we have done. It is allowing God to break our agreement with what He has told us to leave. Ask yourself today: “What used to grieve me that I have now learned to tolerate?”
Don't run from the answer, bring it into the light. Let God search the hidden places, let Him soften what has become hard, let Him awaken what has become numb, let Him restore the holy fear that makes you tremble at the thought of grieving His heart.
May we never become so accustomed to sin that holiness feels strange.
Lord, keep my conscience tender, keep my heart awake, keep me sensitive to Your voice.
When I begin to compromise, interrupt me. When I begin to justify sin, convict me. When I begin to wander, draw me back. I would rather be broken by Your conviction than comfortable in my disobedience.
..May our prayer always be: “Lord, don't let me become comfortable with what You died to deliver me from.” ❤️🔥
"Father, expose every place where I have become comfortable with what You have called me to surrender. Break every false peace. Restore my sensitivity to Your voice. Give me a heart that is quick to repent, quick to obey, and deeply grieved by anything that grieves You. In Jesus’ name, amen."
