What's it like to be John Muir's great-great-grandson? Robert Hanna has done so much for parks and the wild. His ancestor would be proud. Now he is teaming up with Teddy Roosevelt's great-great-grandson to help rally folks to stand up against attacks on national parks. Robert is also a major advocate for freeing the Hetch Hetchy. Robert has also worked to make sure we honor the Buffalo Soldiers as Yosemite's first Rangers. He and Teresa Baker were the main forces to get the road into Yosemite renamed the Buffalo Soldier Highway.

Will it heal itself in time? People often say, "Just let nature heal itself." But meanwhile, plants and animals are becoming endangered and extinct. Is nature not healing itself fast enough? Or are we missing something? Griff thinks that we are looking at it the wrong way. What do you think?

There's a wildlife emergency. And you can easily help. A bird you may have never heard of, called a murre, is starving along the coast of California. These seabirds spend most of their lives on the open ocean, so finding one stranded on the beach signals something is wrong. We’ve admitted more than 330 Common Murres since September 1, and most have arrived severely underweight.

It's California Native American Day! Learning about whose Indigenous land you live on is so helpful toward understanding what the land needs. Most parts of the USA are in desperate need of nature restoration and the best way to help it is to start by understanding it. That includes learning about the Indigenous people who lived and/or live there and what their relationship with the land was like before American management.

“Why Can’t We Just Let Nature Heal Itself?
Can we just leave a damaged wetland alone and wait for nature to heal it?
Here in Humboldt Bay, invasive Chilean cordgrass has spread through salt marshes, crowding out native plants and changing the habitat that birds, insects, and other wildlife depend on. Removing it is slow, difficult work. So is helping the native marsh recover.
Sometimes letting nature heal means lending a hand. We have to be nature that heals itself. 🌱

At a celebration of my favorite river, the Eel River Expo, I met a baby who liked me!!! Most babies seem scared of my voice and size, but me and this dude were friends instantly! Then I ran into the premier Redwood Forest couple. Redwoods trail master Bradley Butler and the most fun Redwood Forest Educator in Nor Cal Erika Butler. I officiated their wedding- guess where? Yep, in the middle of the old-growth Redwood Forest!

There’s an invasion happening right under our noses—one that’s likely reached your own backyard. You may have even unknowingly played a part in it.

This is the spread of invasive plants, animals, and fungi. Once removed from their native habitats, these species reproduce rapidly, disrupting ecosystems, threatening biodiversity, and even endangering our food, health, and recreation.

Invasive species are wreaking havoc in every corner of the world, often with our unwitting help. But with knowledge, care, and action, we can turn the tide.

‪Griff guides you on a journey explaining how invasive species pose a threat, how they got here, and what you can do. Griff is joined by Dr. Sara Kuebbing (from the Yale School of the Environment), Emelie Swackhamer (Penn State University Extension), and Carl Klarner (Redwood Invasive Plant Eradicators).
