Caritas Samoa Assistance to Filipo of Falefa Parish.

Caritas Samoa, guided by Catholic Social Teachings to uphold the dignity of the human person and work for the common good, has extended vital assistance to Filipo of Falefa Parish.

This act of love was initiated when Fr. Manuele Vito visited the Caritas Office to request support for Filipo. Following the visit, Caritas Samoa mobilized resources and prepared a package of assistance to meet his immediate and long-term needs.

From pre‑positioned containers supported by our sister partner Caritas Australia, Caritas Samoa provided essential Non‑Food Items (NFIs) including hygiene care packages, cooking utensils, kitchenware, towels, mosquito nets, thermal blankets, shelter tool kits, and tarpaulins. These items ensure comfort, safety, and dignity in daily living.

In addition, Caritas Samoa has supplied varieties of food, a two‑burner oven with gas cylinder, and committed to delivering a wheelchair and bed in due time to further support Filipo’s wellbeing. This assistance is also a timely support for his carer - his wife, as Mother's Day approaches, recognizing her strength, sacrifice, and love in caring for her husband and 4 girls.

This assistance reflects Caritas Samoa’s Vision of empowering the poor and vulnerable in our society, and its Mission to serve with respect while recognizing the dignity of every person. It is also a testament to the power of partnership, as the support of Caritas Australia makes it possible to reach those most in need.

Caritas Samoa remains committed to walking alongside families and parishes, ensuring that every person is cared for and valued as part of the human family.

Siusega, Malololelei & Malotau June–July 2025
Following the recent clergy meeting, Caritas Samoa was invited by Siusega and Malotau Parishes to conduct Caritas Parish Orientation sessions for their communities. Siusega and Malololelei held their orientation from 25–27 June, while Malotau hosted theirs from 29 June–1 July 2025.
These sessions deepened understanding of the Caritas Parish mission—serving the most vulnerable through compassion, solidarity, and practical action. Parish members explored the vital role of volunteers, especially during times of natural disaster, when Caritas Samoa mobilizes support across the nation. A highlight of the orientation was hands-on experience in warehouse operations. Volunteers assisted in devanning the Malololelei warehouse and container, as well as the Malotau container, gaining firsthand insight into the care and management of Non-Food Items (NFIs) stored in Caritas Samoa’s pre-positioned facilities. Caritas Samoa gratefully acknowledges the support of Australian Aid, whose partnership enabled the successful updating of inventories for both Malololelei and Malotau—ensuring readiness and resilience in times of need.

💧 Celebrating the Success of the WISEH Project

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene for Empowered Households Caritas Samoa proudly marks the successful completion of the WISEH Project, a vital initiative fully funded by Caritas Australia to address critical water and sanitation challenges faced by families and schools across Samoa.

Through this project, we have:
• 🏠 Installed 5,000-liter rainwater harvesting tanks for 30 households in Savaii and Upolu, using both stand-alone and roof-connected systems.
• 🚻 Constructed 7 hygiene facilities for selected families to improve sanitation and dignity.
• 🏫 Supplied 4 schools in Upolu with 10,000-liter water tanks, ensuring access to safe drinking water for students and staff.
• 📚 Delivered training sessions to beneficiaries on system maintenance and hygiene best practices.
The WISEH Project has strengthened community resilience by improving access to clean water and sanitation—essential for health, education, and sustainable development.
Caritas Samoa extends heartfelt thanks to Caritas Australia and all those who contributed to this transformative effort. Together, we are building healthier, more empowered communities.
