MSAA is a community of individuals consisting of artists of all levels and abilities that gather together to encourage and support each other in artistic endeavors. The purpose of this association is to develop and sustain a high cultural standard of art and artistic endeavors, and to promote close relationships between artists and the art loving public. MSAA is a diverse group of artists that gather together to exchange ideas, share creativity and knowledge with each other for the benefit of the members and Yuma Art Community. MSAA’s goal is to build an organization that supports the purpose of MSAA through monthly meetings, coffee get togethers, engaging with the Yuma public through our signature events and supporting others artists in the Yuma area through our Scholarship Program.

A little bird art from MSAA member Tania Bolin!

Tania recently finished these two colorful commissioned paintings featuring a chicken and a quail. Love the personalities she’s captured in each!

🎨 Calling all artists and poets!

The Yuma County Library District is gearing up for its 10th Annual Art & Poetry Exhibition!

This unique event brings poetry and visual art together, with artists creating works inspired by original poems.

Poetry submissions open November 3, with artist participation details coming in December.

A wonderful opportunity to get creative!

While spending the summer on his boat in the Pacific Northwest, MSAA member, Mark Wall found time to create a series of small acrylic paintings on paper.

With just a few basic supplies and limited space, he spent time experimenting with color, texture, and the changing moods of water and sky.

A nice reminder that you don’t need a dedicated studio to make art. Sometimes a small corner, a few supplies, and a little time are all you need!

🎨 A little business, a lot of creativity!

Yesterday, MSAA kicked off our 2026–2027 season with our first member meeting!

Along with catching up, sharing news and taking care of a little association business, members had a chance to get their hands dirty!

Our very own Vice President, Joie Cameron-Brown, led a fun Playday exploring abstract collage, experimenting with paint, color, texture and different techniques. No rules, no expectations, just an opportunity to play, experiment and see what happens!

What a great way to start the season!

🌵 Pretty Prickly! 🌵

A fun new piece from MSAA member Tania Bolin!

Pretty Prickly is acrylic on wood and full of Tania’s bold color, pattern and personality. A cactus may be a familiar sight around Yuma, but this is certainly a different take on one!

From first lines to layers of color!

MSAA member Katie Winters recently shared one of her newest illustrations, featuring Daryl and Sharkey. Swipe through to see some of her process behind this piece!

Starting with her original drawing, Katie blocks in the first layers of color, then builds from there with shading, blending and details that bring the illustration to life.

We love getting a peek behind the scenes and seeing how our members’ work develops along the way.

A colorful new painting from MSAA member Melody Laine Fearn!

You may be most familiar with Melody Fearn’s work featuring botanicals and classic cars. Well, look at this!

Melody’s latest, Foothills Sunrise, captures a desert morning in her unmistakably vibrant style. Bold blues, pinks and reds fill the sky while the dark silhouettes of palms stretch across the foreground.

There’s certainly no easing quietly into the day with this sunrise! 😎

A little Tiffany inspiration from MSAA member Judy Phillips!

Judy created this wonderfully cheerful glass piece by painting yellow enamel on the back of the glass, then adding the black lines and colorful details to the front surface.

The layers give the piece such a great stained-glass quality—and that glowing yellow certainly makes an impact!

We’re getting ready to kick off another season with Mountain Shadows Artists Association!

Our first member meeting of the 2026–27 season is Tuesday, October 13 at 12:30 PM at the Yuma Foothills Library.

Whether you’re a returning member or simply curious about MSAA, guests are always welcome. Come meet some of our artists, learn more about the association, and see if MSAA is a good fit for you.
