Saint John Neumann Catholic Community (SJN) began as a Mission Chapel of St Francis of Assisi Parish in the mid 1970s. Parishioners met initially in the homes of Bob & Mel Boyer and Lawrence & Frances EIliott and then, as members increased, expanded to the Yuma East Community Center. Growth continued and the SJN parish was formally established on November 25, 1986, by Bishop Moreno, as part of the Diocese of Tucson. In 1985, five acres of land were purchased on Mesa Drive just south of 38th Street. Plans were developed and financing obtained and the two current structures (church & rectory) were completed in March of 1987. The first Mass was celebrated on Ash Wednesday of 1987 with 600 people present. After many fund raising events the $512,000.00 mortgage was paid off and the parish became debt free on January 21, 2000.

Parking Lot Construction Notice

As many of you know, construction is ongoing on the east side of the parking lot. We kindly ask everyone to be patient, courteous, and attentive when entering and exiting through the west parking lot.

Thank you all very much for volunteering for the upcoming Saint John Neumann Trunk or Treat. We are looking forward to a fun evening this coming Friday. There are 24 trunkers signed up to date. For those of you volunteering for the first time, we set up under the covered parking on the west side of the hall. Vehicles will be spaced a stall apart. Our costumed guests will walk go up the west side of the lane closest to the hall, make a U turn and go down the east side of the same lane. At the end they can pick up a hotdog, chips and water. You are welcome to have a hotdog as well. A couple of years ago we had over 200 kids. Last year we had less than 100 kids. If you come with candy for 80 to100 kids that should be sufficient. We have about 40 pounds of donated candy to supplement your candy supply if you run out.

You are welcome to decorate your vehicle, though we have had folks just sit behind their undecorated car and pass out candy. As far as to how to decorate, just remember this is a Catholic church. You don’t need a Catholic theme, but a very G rated child theme would be great. Please see the particulars below.

Set up from 4:30pm to 5:30 pm.
Pass out candy from 6:00pm to 8:00pm or when the children stop coming.
We will have candy to supplement what you bring, and hotdogs, chips, and water for everyone.
