HELP. I'VE BEEN TAKEN "HOSTAGE" by kittens. 🐈‍⬛

So apparently National Cat Day was TWO DAYS AGO, and between our Matching Campaign, Halloween festivities, and the general chaos of running an animal rescue, I missed it. 😭

Our cats have NOT taken this oversight lightly.

I am definitely NOT writing this under duress. I am absolutely NOT being held captive by a small army of disgruntled cats and kittens demanding recognition, treats, and immediate adoption.

However, they have asked (very politely, of course) that I relay the following demands:

🐾 They are adorable.

🐾 They are severely underappreciated.

🐾 They are ALL available for adoption and would like to speak to their future families IMMEDIATELY.

🐾 They would also like everyone to know that the dogs get entirely too much attention around here.

In completely unrelated news, our Matching Campaign has officially reached $6,611.78 of our $10,000 goal! 🎉

🦛💙 MEET HIPPO: PROFESSIONAL COUCH POTATO, PART-TIME ATHLETE, FULL-TIME GOOD BOY! 🐾

If you’ve been looking for a dog who can match your energy (especially if your energy is “let’s stay home and watch Netflix”), allow us to introduce your new best friend: HIPPO! 🥹

Hippo is a 3-year-old Pit Bull mix with a heart of absolute GOLD. He’s the kind of dog who enjoys a little playtime, a short adventure, and then promptly clocks out for a well-deserved nap on the couch. Work-life balance? Hippo has mastered it. 👏

But what makes Hippo REALLY special? He loves just about EVERYONE!

🐶 Small dogs? Friends!

🐕 Big dogs? Also friends!

🐱 Cats? No problem!

👧 Kids? Loves ’em!

❤️ Humans in general? HIS FAVORITE!

And did we mention he’s a bit of a fashion icon? 👀 Hippo LOVES dressing up, and he’ll happily rock just about any outfit you put him in. He’s got the personality, the looks, AND the wardrobe to match.

🏆 FUN FACT: Hippo took THIRD PLACE in the hot dog catching contest at the Redlands Dog Jog! That’s right, folks. He’s not just a handsome couch potato. He’s an award-winning handsome couch potato. 🌭😂

All jokes aside, Hippo is truly one of those dogs who makes you wonder how he hasn’t been scooped up already. He’s easygoing, affectionate, wonderfully social, and just wants a comfortable place to land with people who love him.

He doesn’t need a life full of big adventures or nonstop excitement. He just needs a family to call his own, a comfy couch, and definitely a treat every now and then. ❤️

Hippo has SO much love to give, and we know there’s a family out there who will love him just as much in return.

Hey everyone, Director Alli here.

You may have noticed I've been quieter on social media lately. Fewer updates and stories about our animals. It's not because there's less happening at YAPS. It's because so much of my time has been spent behind the scenes, doing everything I can to keep our rescue moving forward.

I want to be vulnerable with you for a moment.

Rescues and nonprofits are struggling. We're seeing organizations close their doors, and YAPS isn't immune to these financial pressures. YAPS as been riding this wave for years.

Every day, our animals still need food, medical care, clean spaces, and people to love them. And keeping a shelter running also means paying for electricity, water, insurance, payroll, and upkeep. Those expenses never stop.

Our community has been AMAZING with our supply wishlists. Every bag of food, box of gloves, bottle of detergent, and other essential item you send makes a genuine difference. Those gifts help us care for our animals and stretch our limited funds further. They mean so much to us. ❤️

And to everyone who attended, sponsored, donated to, or volunteered at Bets for Pets this weekend: THANK YOU. You showed up for our animals, and that support matters more than I can say.

We're actively working on long-term plans to build reliable revenue and a stronger future for YAPS. I believe deeply in where we can take this organization. But building that future takes time, and our operating expenses need to be covered today.

So I'm asking, personally: if YAPS has ever meant something to you, would you consider making a monetary donation?

$5, $25, or whatever is possible. A monthly gift, even a small one, gives us something steady to count on. If you can't give right now, sharing this message is a meaningful way to help, too.

🖤 IT’S NATIONAL BLACK DOG DAY! 🖤

Today is for celebrating the beautiful black dogs who somehow still manage to be overlooked.

Black animals have long faced stigma rooted in superstition, stereotypes, and even the way they’re portrayed in movies and media. In shelters, they can also be easier to overlook at first glance — especially when their faces and expressions don’t photograph as easily as other animals.

But spend five minutes with them, and suddenly color is the least interesting thing about them. 🐾

They’re goofy. They’re cuddly. They’re adventurous. They’re couch potatoes. They’re tennis-ball fanatics, professional treat inspectors, expert snugglers, and best friends waiting to happen.
