🏆📚 We are proud to celebrate three of our scholars for their outstanding achievements in the Woodson Center Book Review Essay Contest!

Congratulations to CJ Hall, Gabrielle Perez, and Myah Starkey, whose essays were selected as winning submissions after reading Lessons from the Least of These: The Woodson Principles by Robert L. Woodson, Sr.

Through their essays, they reflected on leadership principles that inspire positive change, including integrity, resilience, inspiration, competence, agency, and witness. Their thoughtful writing and dedication to personal growth exemplify the values championed by the Woodson Center and demonstrated through the Woodson Principles.

We are incredibly proud of CJ, Gabrielle, and Myah for representing Inspiring Minds Youngstown with excellence. Their hard work, insight, and commitment to leadership have earned them this well-deserved recognition.

Senior Spotlight – Cameron Brown🙌🏾
Cameron Brown is graduating from Austintown Fitch High School and plans to continue his education at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, where he will pursue HVAC and work toward becoming a qualified HVAC technician.
This fall, Cameron plans to continue developing his skills and earning the licenses and certifications needed to build a successful career in the HVAC industry.
“I want to make a meaningful impact on the world by being more than someone who simply exists within it. My goal is for the choices I make and the person I become to inspire others to reach their own potential and make a positive difference in the lives of those around them.”
Cameron is most looking forward to beginning this new chapter of his life and continuing to grow into the responsible, confident, and successful young man he aspires to become.
“Inspiring Minds Youngstown has taught me many valuable lessons, but the most important one is that I am somebody and that my dreams and goals matter. It has helped me realize that I have the potential to set high expectations for myself and achieve them through hard work and determination. My journey with Inspiring Minds Youngstown has been an incredible experience, and I am grateful for the opportunities, guidance, and growth it has provided along the way.”

Senior Spotlight - James Woods🙌🏾

James Woods is graduating from Cardinal Mooney High School and plans to continue his education at Mahoning County Career & Technical Center, where he will train to become an electrician while also pursuing his goal of becoming a traveling nurse.

This fall, James plans to attend trade school to develop skills in multiple trades while continuing to work toward a future in nursing and healthcare.

“I plan to impact the world by being a positive and contributing member of my community and by dedicating my time to meaningful volunteer work.”

James is most looking forward to attending trade school, becoming more marketable through hands-on experience, and learning how to manage his finances responsibly as he enters adulthood.

“Inspiring Minds Youngstown has helped me grow by teaching me discipline, teamwork, and self confidence.”

“I would like to thank my mother, Kiantre Woods, for being such an active and dedicated presence in my life. You work incredibly hard and put in long hours, yet you always make time to show up for me. I am also deeply grateful to Ms. Tammye and Mr. Andy for supporting my mother and stepping in to uplift and guide me through Inspiring Minds Youngstown.”

Senior Spotlight - A’Mara Robinson✨

A’Mara Robinson is graduating from Euclid High School and will continue her academic journey at Xavier University, where she plans to major in Business Administration. She is also a recipient of the Xavier Merit Scholarship.

This fall, A’Mara plans to pursue her dreams of becoming an entrepreneur while also working toward obtaining her real estate license and exploring her passions for acting and singing.

“I plan to impact the world by giving back to the community that has poured so much into me and helped shape who I am today. Through that, I hope to inspire young people to embrace life fully and believe that there are no limits to what they can achieve, because anything is possible.”

A’Mara is most looking forward to the Inspiring Minds senior trip to Belize, preparing for college, and embracing this new chapter of life as she steps beyond her comfort zone and continues to grow personally and academically.

“Inspiring Minds Youngstown has exposed me to opportunities, organizations, and experiences I may not have encountered otherwise, helping me find my voice and advocate for myself. It encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, build meaningful connections, believe in myself, and take chances, understanding that growth comes from trying and putting myself out there.”

“I would like to thank my mom for encouraging me to try new experiences I might never have pursued and for helping me understand more about the world and our environment over the years. I am also grateful to Ms. Tammye, who guided me at Inspiring Minds Youngstown as I caught up on important skills, helping me create a resume, write an autobiography and business plan, and showing me that there is more out there than I realized, while teaching me the importance of speaking up for myself.”

The future is bright for our Class of 2026. 🎓✨ This graduation was more than a celebration, it was a reflection of years of hard work, growth, memories, and perseverance.

We are incredibly proud of each scholar and the impact they’ve made during their time at Inspiring Minds Youngstown. Watching them step into their next chapter is exciting, but this class will definitely be missed. 💙

This weekend, 4 of our scholars participated in the local BIG (Blacks In Government) Oratorical and STEM Competition.

They researched, wrote speeches and pitched their ideas to a panel of judges about one of two topics:
• Oratorical: Impact of AI on the 2026 Election
• STEM: Solutions to Prevent Amputation in Diabetic Patients

Special thank you to the Lake Erie Chapter of Blacks In Government; IMY Mom, Volunteer and VP of the Lake Erie Chapter of Blacks In Government, Shirrell Brown; our judges Rayshone Phillips, LaTrice Fitzpatrick, and Shaunie Fox; and everyone who believed in and supported our scholars along this journey.

Senior Spotlight - Larell Brown 🙌🏾

Larell Brown is graduating from Chaney High School and will continue his academic journey at Youngstown State University, where he plans to major in Digital Media. He is also a recipient of the Y-Star Scholarship.

This fall, Larell plans to pursue a career doing work he truly enjoys while continuing to grow into a well-known and highly respected figure in his field.

“I plan to make a positive impact on the world by dedicating my time to volunteering and serving others. Through consistent acts of kindness, I hope to demonstrate how compassion and generosity can create meaningful and lasting change.”

Larell is most looking forward to stepping into a new chapter of life and embracing new opportunities, challenges, and experiences that will help him grow both personally and professionally.

“Inspiring Minds Youngstown has played a meaningful role in my journey by helping me grow into a better, more confident person. Through its guidance and support, I have gained valuable knowledge and life skills that will continue to shape my future.”
