Scholarship Spotlight: Kaitlin Hogg 🌟

Congratulations to Kaitlin Hogg, a 2026 Youngstown Press Club scholarship winner!

A third-year student at Ohio University, Hogg is a journalism, news and information major in the Scripps College of Communication. She is pursuing a minor in political science.

As a sophomore, Hogg was the campus and local staff writer for The Post - the university's independent student-run newspaper.

She has interviewed Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton and Ohio treasurer candidate Seth Walsh. She also interviewed an OU professor following his kidnapping in Gaza.

Hogg plans to join the spring cohort of the Scripps in D.C. program, where she intends to have an internship with a national news company.

After graduation, she intends to become a correspondent in Washington, D.C.

Scholarship Spotlight: Omar Frazier🌟

Congratulations to Omar Frazier, a 2026 Youngstown Press Club scholarship winner!

Frazier, known creatively as "Bomar," is a multimedia communications student at YSU with a focus on photography, videography, video editing and visual storytelling.

Through his brand, Bomar Visuals, he produces work that blends creativity, emotion and meaningful design.

He has been a photo and video specialist in YSU's marketing and communications department, creating promotional content, student features and visual media for the university.

Frazier has also been a video editor and executive producer for Jambar TV, helping to produce student-led news, sports and multimedia content.

He also has experience as a communications intern with the Youngstown City School District, and he has done video editing for The Amazing Podcast Co.

Frazier's goal is to become a versatile media professional, who uses visual storytelling to connect with audiences and create meaningful work.

Scholarship Spotlight: Joslyn DelSignore 🌟

Congratulations to Joslyn DelSignore, a 2026 Youngstown Press Club scholarship winner!

Joslyn is a journalism major and social media campaigns minor at Youngstown State University. A Struthers native, she intends to use her journalism education to become a news reporter dedicated to telling the community’s stories to the best of her ability.

At YSU, she works at The Jambar as a news multimedia journalist and will begin her position as assistant news editor this fall. Her main responsibilities include writing print stories, conducting interviews, video recording and editing, writing broadcast scripts and photography. She is also an anchor for “Jambar in 10” on JambarTV.

Scholarship Spotlight: Maggie McGlone 🌟

Congratulations to Maggie McGlone, a 2026 Youngstown Press Club scholarship winner!

A Youngstown native and a 2023 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, McGlone is entering her senior year at Capital University, where she is studying film and media production and marketing.

At Capital, she is a member of the women's soccer team, a sister of Phi Sigma Sigma and a social media intern for the university.

She began her media journey when her grandfather, Pete Gabriel, WKBN radio operations manager and a Youngstown Press Club Hall of Fame inductee, gave her her first camera.

In high school, she created content for various school events and for McGlone Media LLC.

McGlone has begun an internship with the communications team at the Ohio Department of Youth Services, where she helps tell the story of troubled youth across the state and aspires to further develop her skills in media and storytelling.

🏆 Year 2 of the Youngstown Press Club’s Scholastic Journalism Awards is officially in the books—and what an incredible year it was!

We were privileged to review the outstanding work of student journalists, including talented reporters, editors, writers, photographers, broadcast producers, and design editors.

Here is a look at this year by the numbers:

🌟 102 students from 14 schools in 6 counties participated
🥇 39 students were recognized as winners
💰 $1,300 was awarded in cash prizes
📝 100% of participants received valuable, constructive feedback from our expert judges - and these nifty wristbands..

We are already counting down the days until next year's awards! Huge congratulations to all of our participants—have a wonderful summer, and we’ll see you in the Fall! ☀️📰
