The Rich Center for Autism

The Rich Center for Autism Our goal is to improve education experiences and outcomes for individuals with autism and families. According the CDC, Autism affects 1 in 36 children.

The Rich Center for the Study and Treatment of Autism is an externally funded unit of Youngstown State University. Our mission is to improve the lives of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families through the creation, use, and enhancement of innovative and educational programs specifically designed to assure the attainment of a life of dignity and to enhance the individuals’ opp

ortunity to achieve his or her full potential. Autism is a developmental disability that causes significant social, communication and behavioral problems. Problems with speech, communication, and social interaction are common. Research shows there are effective techniques and therapies to improve the lives, education, and independence for those with autism. Early detection, screening, diagnosis, and treatment, such as those offered at The Rich Center, are the best ways to ensure success for these children. The Rich Center consistently serves about 60 children diagnosed with autism. They range in age from 3-21 years of age. Their education, therapy, and support is provided at no cost to their families thanks to state funding, grants, individual and corporate donors, and fundraising events.

Our students had an amazing time on their field trip to Keystone Safari! Thank you to all the families that could attend and to our staff for their support throughout the day. 🦒🐅🦓

Financial support for this trip was provided by The Doug Krinsky and Georgia Backus Operating Endowment for The Rich Center held at The Youngstown State University Foundation. Proceeds from the Ante4autism event provided the initial funding for the creation of this endowment. The 2026 event is this weekend! Best of luck and thank you for your ongoing support of our Center!
