For as long as we’ve been Ashlin’s Alliance, we’ve had a little tradition.

The ribbon stays gold.

The ladybug changes colors to recognize different causes, different months and different people; but the gold ribbon represents who we are and why we started.

Tonight, we’re breaking that tradition.

For Sheila, we made the ribbon pink too. 💗

Sheila Kroll-Dickinson wasn’t simply someone who supported Ashlin’s Alliance after we got started. She was supporting this mission before Ashlin’s Alliance even existed. Back when I was just a shavee at local St. Baldrick’s events, through our early days at Quaker Steak & L**e in Boardman, and through everything that came afterward.

She believed in this fight long before we became what we are today.

There aren’t many people for whom we would change something that represents such an important part of our identity.

Sheila is one of them.

Unfortunately, because of Facebook’s restrictions on verified pages, we aren’t able to temporarily change our profile picture ourselves.

But you can.

So we’re asking our friends, supporters and everyone whose life was touched by Sheila to help us do something a little different.

Save this pink Ashlin’s Alliance ribbon and make it your profile picture for the next day or two. Let’s fill our little corner of the Mahoning Valley with pink for a woman who spent so much of her life standing up for people fighting cancer.

Facebook might not let us change ours.

🎗️ HONORING OUR KIDS: AUBRIELLA
As we begin Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, there may be no better place for us to start than with a little girl we've had the privilege of watching grow right alongside Ashlin's Alliance.

Meet Aubriella Augustine. or Aubie, as we know her. ❤️

Aubie is four years old, from Austintown, and her family describes her as resilient, outgoing, energetic and smart. She loves gymnastics, Play-Doh, spaghetti, chicken nuggets, chocolate, Gabby's Dollhouse and, of course, K-Pop Demon Hunters.

At just two years old, Aubriella was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma. Her journey included chemotherapy and the removal of her left eye, and today she wears a prosthetic. Her family had to learn how to adjust to a new normal while watching their little girl go through things no child should ever have to experience.

Then came a moment they'll never forget! Aubriella rang the bell and chemotherapy was finished.

Today, Aubie is in remission. ❤️

But cancer is only one small part of Aubriella's story.

She's goofy! Loves making people laugh, and has already figured out one pretty great way to get a reaction from her classmates… Showing her personality, she loves showing everyone how she can take her “eyeball” out. 😂

And when you ask this four-year-old what she wants to be when she grows up? A doctor. ❤️

Our connection with Aubriella's family began through our St. Baldrick's event in 2024, and she has been part of the Alliance family ever since. At our very first Ladybug Run that September, a much smaller Aubie stood with a flag almost comically bigger than she was and served as our honorary flag waver.

We've watched Aubie grow. We've watched her overcome. We've watched that personality get bigger and bigger. We've been lucky enough to watch a little girl who once stood at the beginning of our first Ladybug Run become such an important part of what Ashlin's Alliance is today.

Her family says she has developed a close bond with Ashlin's Alliance and loves seeing her “inherited family.”

The feeling is absolutely mutual. ❤️

And her family's message is one we hope you'll remember throughout this entire month:
Cancer doesn't define these kids.
Aubriella isn't a diagnosis.
She's a gymnast.
She's a comedian with one heck of a party trick. 😂
She's a future doctor.
She's a Ladybug Run OG.
She's our Aubie.

And today, we're incredibly grateful to say she's a childhood cancer survivor. 🎗️

This is Aubriella. This is who we're fighting for.

🎗️ September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

For many people, September means the end of summer, back to school, football, and the beginning of fall.

But for the families who have heard the words “your child has cancer,” this month can feel much different.

So starting in September and leading up to our Ladybug Run & Family Fun Day, we want to use this month to introduce you to some of the incredible kids and families who have helped build the foundation of Ashlin’s Alliance.

Every couple of days, we’ll share one of their stories. Not just their diagnosis or treatment, but who they are. Their personalities, the things they love, their victories, their struggles, and the moments that remind us why this work matters so much.

Some are survivors, while some are still fighting. Every journey is different, but every one of these kids deserves to be known for so much more than cancer.

This month may feel different for our families. We hope that by sharing their stories, it feels a little different for all of you, too. 💛
