After inducting two new members at last night's UYRC meeting, Club members and guests heard the heroic story of The Four Chaplains (plus one), with extended stories of personal and York connections from presenter Lou Lavetan. Thank you, Lou, for introducing yourself to our program committee chair, MJ, to let her know about your presentation.

Community members are invited to reach out to MJ or other UYRC members to share their ideas for club meeting presentations and/or site visits.

Also, Lou is happy to share his presentation of The Five Immortals with other community groups. His contact information is on the last photo.

Three cheers to UYRC's newest members - Jessica Yaden and Kimberly Soderberg - selected and supported by fellow Uptown York members and inducted this evening by Club President, Jenette Santiago-Kearse.

Welcome, Jess and Kim! You're a great addition to our service-oriented happy hour club.

Jess's sponsor, Immediate Past President, Vaughn Crouse, and Kim's sponsor, Averie Clark, were on hand to pin the inductees in a ceremony ahead of the Club's evening program. (See separate post.)

Rotarians at work for the good of students in our community. Uptown Rotarians partnered with the Elks to package personal hygiene kits for York City students in need.

UYRC members and guests are enviably "in the know" about Downtown York thanks to an enthusiastic and informative presentation from Sarah O'Brien, director of Downtown Inc at tonight's meeting.

Sarah shared a look into the workings of the York County Economic Alliance's Main Street arm, along with some exciting updates. (We were sworn to secrecy until public announcements are made. 🤭)

Elementary school teacher/insurance agent/soccer coach/bartender Ben Otterson was one of the very lucky 1,900 people who had the opportunity to volunteer with the FIFA World Cup in Philadelphia. We were lucky enough to hear his experience.

He shared that it was harder to get a volunteer position in the stadium than to get into an Ivy League school!

Tonight we got reacquainted with President Jenette and Vice President Jose - the sister-brother duo leading our club this year.

They shared how their early years in York shaped their lives today and the work and volunteering they do.

Tonight our members are out serving our community, distributing school supplies during National Night Out with Community Progress Council and Northeast Neighborhood Association! We always have a great time interacting with our neighbors.
