Based on the Object of Rotary, the Avenues of Service are Rotary’s philosophical cornerstone and the foundation on which club activity is based:

Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club. Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards. Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community. International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace.

💙 Taking care of those who take care of us.

Tonight, Uptown York Rotary welcomed former member Britta Schwab, Project Director of the Handle with Care Project, to share how experiential training is helping law enforcement better understand mental health challenges and the perspectives of people with lived experience.

Through training like Bell Socialization’s Hearing Distressing Voices, the project has reached 150+ York County officers, including those in York City and Hanover Borough, at no cost to departments, thanks to local funders.

The project also emphasizes officer and family well-being.

Thank you, Britta, for sharing this important work with us!

This is what it looks like when students get their very own dictionaries that they can keep forever!

10/16/2026

Uptown York Rotary Club has been supporting The Dictionary Project, providing dictionaries to local 3rd graders since 2021. 3rd grade is when students transition from learning to read to reading to learn.

🦪 Why oysters? We learned all about the history of York’s Fall Oyster Festival last night from Dan Fink of the York County History Center.

Dan even put us to the test with Oyster Festival trivia. No one got 100%!

We learned the festival began in 1974, but oysters weren’t added until the following year. Oyster shells discovered during the restoration of the Golden Plough Tavern helped inspire the tradition.

Now we’re looking forward to the 52nd Fall Oyster Festival on October 18!

✨ Tonight’s Uptown York Rotary Club meeting had a little extra magic in the air! 🪄

Erick Hershey of Country Conjuring pulled back the curtain on how he uses magic to create connections, spark joy, and give people a much-needed break from the everyday friction of life.

A big thank-you to Erick for sharing his magic with us tonight. We’re still trying to figure out how he made the evening disappear so quickly! 🎩✨

Rotary District 7390 District Governor Rebecca Zalit made her official visit to Uptown York Rotary Club this week, and we’re still vibing off the evening!

Rebecca shared her goal to collect 1,700 books for early learning centers across the district - that’s one book for every Rotarian!

She also encouraged us to each reach out and invite someone to experience Rotary.

Thank you for a wonderful visit!
