Because of you, York County was able to raise a collective $77,367 for a bright future for women, girls, and their families in York across four invaluable nonprofits.

Countdown to midnight!! Check out this moving and supportive work YWCA Hanover is doing!

Anyone who has lost a loved one knows that there is an indescribable void created by that person’s absence. The emptiness can result even more painful when the loved one was lost to violence.

In 1993, community activists in collaboration with the Women’s Resource Center, started the “Empty Place at the Table” exhibit as a response to a spree of domestic violence murders in Lackawanna County, PA.

YWCA Hanover’s Safe Home, along with local supporters, had planned to honor survivors and their families by participating in “Empty Place at the Table” during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) April 19th-25th, 2020.

People in Adams and York counties would have been able to see these exhibits in several restaurants around the community who had generously agreed to offer a table at their location as a venue for the place settings. Unfortunately, due to COVID19 we are not able to physically come together. In an effort to honor victims during this special week, our community partners and Safe Home are sharing this information virtually and hope you will take some time to honor all survivors and their families, and once we are able to gather again, please visit our community partners below that support our efforts in advocating for domestic violence victims in our community.

Speaking of female entrepreneurs, check out this article to see the impact cookie sales have on a Girl Scout’s entrepreneurial spirit! We’re looking forward to supporting Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pa tomorrow in addition to the other stretch pool recipients.

Entrepreneurship is now a core focus of the Girl Scout experience and National Cookie Weekend is a perfect time for girls to learn business skills.

There is no doubt, the COVID-19 crisis is in front of us as are immediate needs for healthcare, food supplies, and emergency support. This crisis is revealing long known cracks in our communities and we are rallying to support them. Before, during, and as we move through this crisis we know challenges for women and girls remain top priority. Issues that challenge equity for women further complicate the crisis, and focus on them must continue.

Despite the success of Give Local York, some community members have noticed an opportunity to use the day to highlight the phenomenal women of York across nonprofits. As a way to lift up women and collaborate between like minded organizations who champion them the Phenomenal Women Stretch Pool has been created. Give Local is York's annual day of giving, raising $3.2 million for over 300 nonprofits in 2019. It's a high impact opportunity for us to come together and empower the nonprofits in our County that are working tirelessly to support and champion women.

The Phenomenal Woman Stretch Pool empowers organizations committed to fostering equal opportunities for all women and girls, focusing specifically on economic security, leadership, safety, and health. The Phenomenal Women of York County deserve the right to make their own decisions in service of living their best lives.

The $10,000 Phenomenal Women Stretch pool will provide $2,5000 each to YWCA York, YWCA Hanover, Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA, and Planned Parenthood Keystone during Give Local York so that they can continue to offer critical services to our community when they collectively raise $30,000. We know that strong communities are those that empower women and girls at every stage of their lives so that they can have equitable opportunities to lead York into the future.

We can't risk losing these services at this critical juncture. Our York - its women, children, and families - need us now more than ever to ensure we're prepared to move into the future as a community that raises up and empowers all voices. We're excited to use Give Local York as an opportunity to shine and remind the community of our collective power.

Join us on Friday, May 1, 2020 by donating to one of the four participating non-profits through www.givelocalyork.org. When they collectively raise $30,000 - the pool will be unlocked and each organization will receive $2,500. The girls, women, and greater York community win when we champion the phenomenal women of York.
