Basha Kill Area Association (BKAA)

Basha Kill Area Association (BKAA) The BKAA consists of dedicated people working together to preserve the beautiful Bashakill Wetland. We are a hands-on organization.

The BKAA works with representatives of local government and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation to address potential problems. We monitor local Town Board and Planning Board meetings and-stay apprised of potential development. The BKAA partners with other environmental groups to safeguard the region's valuable resources. The BKAA sponsors an annual litter cleanup at the wetlands, conducts a water-quality monitoring project and sponsors a volunteer eagle watch program.

Great wildlife at the Bashakill--pair of yellow-bellied sapsuckers, red bellied woodpecker, Baltimore oriole, common nighthawk, great crested flycatcher, veery, female redstart ("yellowstart"), yellow warbler, snapping turtle, blue flag & bumblebee. We wanted to share a letter sent independently of the BKAA to the Planning Board of Mamakating , and shared with us, concerning the proposed Mulch / Composting plant on MacDonald Road. Attached was 30+ pages of supporting documentation, confirming exactly what we have also presented, as to why this needs to be denied. I’m sorry the whole document is to large to share, but if you are interested in reading it please PM us. I have the writers permission to share it.

The next Planning board meeting is this coming Tuesday at the Mamakating Town Hall at 7:00pm.
