“It’s ok to take risks, and do things you think are scary. Not every choice you make will point you in the right direction but it is all part of this process we call life,” says senior, Savannah Ambrose. Ambrose is a dedicated and kind cadet who stands for exactly what she thinks. She excelled significantly in and out of JROTC—she was our Alpha Squadron Commander for our 2026-2027 academic year, heavily involved in Etowah’s girl’s golf team, and is a very talented photography. She is set to attend Georgia Highlands College where she will receive her bachelor’s in digital media and communication. She has been a mentor and friend to many, and helped shape our program into what it is now.

Savannah, we will miss you! We wish you luck as you move into this next chapter!

This girl. Congrats to Bella Latham for being honored/recognized at last night’s district board meeting for winning a $10,000 scholarship to pursue her private pilot certification this summer. Well done!

Landon Bridgers is a 4-year cadet who has seen his fair share of seniors come and go—and now it is his time. Bridgers noted that he joined to expand on his leadership and accountability skills, and that he has been greatly moved by the program. Bridgers was heavily involved in our program’s riflery effort, and by his junior year he was a part of a 1st place GHSA regular season team, 4th in the Area championship, and 3rd place nationally among Air Force JROTC teams! Bridgers obtained a national level award, the Reserve Organization of America award—awarded once a year to only one cadet in the program, typically to a 4th year cadet—by his junior year. His excellence and dedication to the program are off the charts. Bridgers noted, “Some advice for those who are still here in high school- don’t take high school for granted. It will go by super fast, and make memories while you still can.” Don’t take advantage of time, it is the one thing that you cannot get back. Have fun, try new things, make mistakes— “Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” - Theodore Roosevelt.

Thank you for all you’ve done Bridgers. We will miss you, and we wish you the best!

As we begin to wave goodbye to our senior class, it is important to continue our tradition of recognizing all that our upperclassmen have done for us in their time in the Etowah JROTC program. Whether one year or your whole career, every cadet has contributed to our program in one way or another, and we—instructors and cadets alike—are grateful for you.

Calib Rogers is one of many cadets where we could witness significant growth. Rogers went from riding the waves of JROTC to being a powerhouse on the raider and color guard teams. He has been on the JROTC Raider National Championship team two years in a row, and attended many significant color guard events such as Monster Jam presenting for governor Brian Kemp’s workforce summit. Outside of JROTC, Rogers has earned his community service letter, and continues to be a respectful, friendly person. He notes that he wishes he had tried harder while he had the time—quoting Oprah’s “Turn your wounds to wisdom.” Cadets—it is wise to listen to your elders. Push your boundaries, try new things, give everything your all.

Thank you for your contribution to the program Rogers. We will miss you, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

A fan favorite of the year is the end of season picnic. It was so nice to see well more than 130 cadets and family members show up to Red Top Mountain State Park today to swim, eat, play beach volleyball, eat, get into shaving cream wars, eat, and more. Oh, and did we say eat? Thank you to the Whitaker family for being the grill masters. Their donation of countless ribs, 45 pounds of chicken, 200+ hamburgers and 150+ hotdogs was greatly appreciated.

BOOM! That sound you just heard was another@etowahhs cadet earning an opportunity to get her private pilot license this summer. Congratulations to Bella Latham who will start her pilot training in June. Thank you to the Don Stevens and Bob Burns families and their Cherokee County Educational Foundation for helping our brightest achieve their dreams. So proud!
