Our 21st Annual Macroinvertebrate Survey was a success! 🎉 Thanks to our wonderful team of volunteers we were able to assess the health of 6 local streams including East Meadow Brook, Sprain Brook, East Spring Brook, Lewis Atwood Brook, South Brook, and Good Hill Brook. 💧

Each fall, we join the statewide search for macroinvertebrates, or “river bugs,” that live in freshwater streams. These critters may be small, but they play a big role in measuring the health of our waterways. 🦞💙

We got a beautiful fall day for our last bacteria and nitrate sampling program of the season! ☀🍁

We want to give a huge THANK YOU to all of the stream monitoring volunteers that joined us this year. 💙 You helped us collect the data we need to protect the health of our local waterways! 🧪💪

We got some great fall foliage shots yesterday as we traveled around the watershed collecting our stream temperature data loggers. 🍁📸

We place data loggers (housed in concrete blocks) in over a dozen different streams to continuously record stream temperatures from May to October. This data is shared with CT DEEP and used to identify and protect habitat for cold-water species such as our native brook trout! 🐟🌡

It's River Bug Season! 🪱🦞 🔍

We had a blast kicking off our 21st Macroinvertebrate (River Bug) Survey season this weekend. Thanks to our awesome team of volunteers, we were able to assess the health of East Meadow Brook and Good Hill Brook in Woodbury!

We've got plenty more streams to survey this fall. 🍁 You can join the fun by signing up for one of our upcoming Macro Survey Programs on October 17 and 18th! Register at pomperaug.org/events 💧
