Windrush Farm lost a bit of its heart yesterday. Our beloved Mandy, “Amanda Carey Hogan” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her family. They were her greatest joy and she loved nothing more than spending time with them.

For over 50 years, Mandy was a cornerstone of Windrush. Standing shoulder to shoulder with our founder Marj Kittredge, Mandy embodied the spirit of compassion, excellence and dedication to our mission. She had a great gift of insight into what our horses, our students and us, needed at any given time. Those of you reading this who knew her, know exactly what I mean. She could read a room, a lesson, a conversation, and someone’s mood like nobody else.

Mandy was a beacon that we followed and tried to emulate, an anchor that we looked to for stability. Her light shone brightly no matter how strong the sun or dark the night. Many of us say regularly, “Oh, let’s ask Mandy” or “Mandy will know” and I suspect we will continue to do that for a very long time. She set a standard within our entire industry that upcoming horsemen and instructors will continue to strive for a very long time in their careers.

For all of us that want to honor her, remember her fierce advocacy for our horses, her steadfast compassion for education, and her laser focus for her students. The following days and years will bring extremely warranted, unending accolades of her excellence and accomplishments, but for us, these are what we need to make sure we keep close to our hearts. She was a gift to us and a blessing in our lives.

We know she was greeted not only by the loved ones she had lost and her beloved pets, but by the multitude of Windrush horses that she helped care for, train, and love as her own.

Fair winds and following seas Manda. To you and Dolly today, we will always love you.
