The international Season of Creation (September 1–October 4) is a time for followers of Christ around the world to come together in prayer and action for God’s creation. This September, we at EEN are participating in this season by hosting an evening prayer service. 🙏 We will gather online on Thursday, September 3 at 8 pm EDT to worship, hear joys and concerns from our community, and intercede for them together.

Our devotion will be given by EEN Board Member and Executive Director of the American Fisheries Society Jeff Kopaska. Jeff will reflect on this year's Season of Creation theme: “Living Water,” based on Ezekiel 47:1-12. 🌊 God’s life-giving water flows from the temple. The river grows deeper and deeper, restoring barren land, reviving waters, and sustaining flourishing ecosystems. The prophet's vision invites our response: to be immersed in the living water and experience transformation, then work for the renewal of creation as the Holy Spirit flows from us (John 7:38).

This summer, the U.S. Department of the Interior proposed a revision to the Bureau of Land Management's oil and gas leasing rule. This revision would lower statewide bonding requirements, essentially not requiring oil and gas companies to clean up their wells and the land surrounding them when they're finished drilling.

With an estimated 15,000 orphaned wells already on federal lands and $4.7 billion in taxpayer funds spent on cleanup, weakened bonding requirements would expose American taxpayers to billions more in cleanup costs rather than advancing responsible stewardship of public lands by the oil and gas industry.

Last month, our friends from City Church and Calvary Reformed Church in Cleveland, OH successfully wrapped up their Creation Care Kids program! This VBS-style program included weekly sessions throughout the month of July. The kids explored the text of the creation story in Genesis 1, then engaged in caring for the things God created–air, water, plants, and animals–through hands-on activities with church volunteers and local experts!

$3.5 billion. That’s how much methane oil and gas companies leak and burn off annually. The result: hundreds of millions of dollars missing from taxpayer wallets along with valuable energy wasted. That's why industry incentives to cost-effective tech are essential!
