The MBA is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing exclusive services, benefits, and scholarship programs to current or retired public employees and elected officials in the state of Minnesota. The Minnesota Benefit Association, a designated 501 (c) 9 organization, was formed in 1929 following a meeting organized by Harold Holister, a Minnesota public employee. The concerned public employ
ees who attended that meeting formed the nucleus of a new organization that became known as the Minnesota Benefit Association. In 1931, MBA helped sponsor legislation that established a retirement program for state employees. In addition, MBA became the first designated organization to offer group life insurance to employees of the state. Now, in addition to state employees, membership includes county, municipal, township and school district employees and elected officials.
