The Wild In Us

The Wild In Us Raising awareness and money for the Ataxia Foundation through our adventures with our mustangs, mules, & donating 3% of all sales from the saddle shop

In 2014, Gary Peterson lost his life to Ataxia. Leaving behind a desire in his son to live life courageously, like his father. To honor Gary Peterson, Trent Peterson, along with his 3 adopted mustangs riding north along the PCT, a 2,659 mile long trail stretching from Mexico to Canada, in the summer 2017. Trent rides to raise awareness and money for the ataxia foundation which funds research proje

cts to one day stop the hereditary disease. To complete this ride, Trent will use Mustangs adopted, gentled and trained by himself. In doing so, he hopes to raise awareness for the challenges our wild horses face both in the wild and in holding facilities. In order to live courageously, and honor the life and opportunities that Ataxia took from Gary, Trent turns to the mountains and the mustangs. He will go back to when life wasn’t as plush and so domesticated; when life didn’t exist in the borders of a fence line but ran wild across the harsh, unforgiving West. He rides to give hope to those who need some, to give a voice to those who have none and to educate along the way. He rides for Gary, he rides for the Mustangs, and he rides for the wild in us all.

Nature always provides…
Sometimes the solution is a lot easier than you think. By dipping your hole punch in beeswax before using it, especially if the leather is damp, you’ll save yourself a lot of grief!

Give it a try. When I learned this it blew my mind!

Handmade pad and matching cinch?…… if you know me at all you know that’s a no brainer!

made me a pulled wool pad out of Alpaca this last spring…. And it just felt odd to not have a matching cinch to go with it. It was just to special and beautiful, so I reached out to Brie of to see what she could do. These tw women have completely hit it out of the park and has left this Packer feeling pretty bougie… and I’m perfectly happy with that!

For a pad or a cinch, get in touch with either one of these talented craftswomen!

I’m riding on a cloud now, and I’ve got a beautiful mohair cinch holding me onto it while Padilla and I make our way down the trail!

You can leave a comment, picture, or even a video now. So let’s help each other out and maybe we’ll all learn something new!

I’ve got something pretty cool to show you!!

My buddy Eric from has been thinking outside of the box…some might say the Boxhitch even!

While I have been running and do love my current adjustable pack saddles, there are a few things I don’t love about them. Those issues have been addressed here, and I’m putting my eyes on Eric’s solution for the first time!

Fully adjustable pack saddles, but also one that can have the bars locked in place if it’s getting assigned to a mule or horse. And still be able to change the bars later down the road if you no longer have that critter in your string anymore. Wooden bars vs a composite of some kind so that you can shave the bars down like you might do on a traditional Sawbuck or Decker. And the arches allow you to pack using both methods with hangers or sling ropes.

I’m super excited to get this saddle rigged up and on the trail! Stay tuned as I put some miles on with it and if you have any questions. Reach out to myself or Eric and !

Packing is a constant evolution and I believe this might be the next best thing!
