We give local vehicle sellers more options when they are looking to turn their car into cash

This month’s Name Your Car Gas Challenge winners met with me last week to collect their $50 prizes! One winner took home a gas card, while the others decided to try their luck with the big lottery scratchers.

While we could have had even more photos of happy prize recipients, one winner never came forward to claim their prize after successfully matching AAA’s published national average gas price. All told, this promotion paid out 60% of our budgeted $500 in prizes.

The remaining prize budget gives us an opportunity to up the stakes for our recently launched Halloween Gas Challenge, where one lucky follower could win up to $1,000 at the end of the month!

If you’re local, simply comment on our most recent contest post with your gas price prediction for October 31st. Match AAA’s published national average, and you could win at least $100 in cash! And for followers who choose to help promote our work, the potential payout could be considerably higher!

Halloween is rapidly approaching, and with it comes another Gas Challenge!

This contest could produce another $1,000 winner, a prize we haven’t offered since Heather took home that amount to finish off our year of giving back in 2022.

Of course, we ask that our biggest winners also be our biggest promoters by inviting friends and sharing our promotional content. For those who don’t feel comfortable spreading the word about our local used-car selling startup, no worries—you can still pose with me and collect at least $100 simply by commenting on this post with your Halloween gas price prediction.

Seeing as it is spooky season, we’re also asking all entrants to include something in their comment that scares them about selling a car. For some, it could be meeting strangers for test drives with them behind the wheel, or later handling large amounts of cash. Others might dread wasting time with people who don’t hesitate to waste theirs—either by not showing up as expected or making insultingly low offers.

For those of us who find a thrill in these aspects—and the entire used-car sales process—we shudder at the thought of leaving money on the table by not doing the necessary legwork to get top dollar!

Whatever it is, tell us which part of the used-car selling process makes your skin crawl. If your gas price prediction matches the national average published by AAA on Halloween, we can get you paid, just like the dozens of other followers who have left with a smile after collecting their winnings!

Jinny played in our Labor Day Gas Challenge and came just .002 away from matching AAA!

While being close doesn’t get you paid in a Gas Challenge, selling your old van with Carma Services sure does.

Jinny’s selling story was another unique endeavor, with some valuable takeaways that could help future car sellers - and I plan to share more of those details soon. But for now, let’s just say that selling privately with some help from yours truly netted her about $1,000 more than she would have received by simply dumping her unneeded vehicle at the dealer.

If you know somebody locally who’s looking to raise some cash by selling an extra vehicle, send them our way. They can get more money for their ride, and you could collect our cash referral bonus!

October 2nd is National Name Your Car Day, and to celebrate, let’s try to find up to 10 more winners with another promotional Gas Challenge! As a “thank you” to our local followers who have invited their friends to check out our page, they’ll have multiple chances to win $50 in free gas cards OR $50 in lottery scratchers each time their gas price prediction matches AAA’s published national average between October 2nd–11th.

You can enter now by commenting on this post with your AAA national average gas price prediction, along with some thoughts on car names. Specifically, if you’ve ever named a vehicle you owned, share its name in your comment. If you haven’t, tell us what slang term you might use for an old car. Also let us know which prize you’d prefer: $50 in lottery scratchers or a $50 gas card.

Lottery scratchers can be fun, especially when they pay out. Sadly, most don’t, and it can be a bit of a letdown to watch someone deflate as they realize the ticket I just handed them was a loser.

During our Summer Gas Challenge, we not only gave away $1,000 in free gas, but for those who didn’t have a car or qualify by owning a Carma Car*, we also offered a chance to win $250 worth of lottery scratchers. When it was all said and done, four of those winners took home $200 worth of expensive cardboard.

Kim, on the other hand, after already winning $100 cash in our 12 Days of Carma Gas Challenge last year, matched the price of gas twice last month, entitling her to $100 worth of lotto tickets this go-round. After her second gas price match, she brought her dog Pierre to claim her second $50 prize and scratched her way to a $75 payout!

While she was happy to walk away with something of value, it occurred to me that turning $250 in cash into $75 through games of chance was a pretty lousy return. As a community service, I feel it’s important to remind people of what they likely already know: the house always wins.

So, if you choose to spend your own money on lottery tickets, please play responsibly and only spend what you’re comfortable losing, because chances are you’ll lose more than you will win.

Or better yet, join us the next time we ask you to throw out a gas price prediction! Our next contest will include another $250 worth of lottery scratchers for followers to play on my dime.

Would you believe that our Labor Day winner never claimed their cash prize?

That’s okay, because yesterday we were able to cap off our Summer Gas Challenge after giving away the full $1,000 in free gas! Those prizes were awarded through 18 fill-ups, with a total of 256 gallons of gas pumped into our followers’ tanks.

Our final few fill-ups included some new recipients, including Bah and Corey, along with a return visit from Jen.

A special shout-out goes to Harrison, who was our first winner last month. His successful gas price prediction ultimately allowed his big truck to claim nearly $300 in free gas over four Sunday fill-ups with me!

This contest was even more rewarding than our typical Gas Challenges because every winner had taken the time to invite their friends through Facebook and help promote Carma Services. And instead of producing just one winner, this contest generated more than a dozen different gas recipients!

It was so much fun contacting and meeting with so many winners that this week we’ll be opening another opportunity for 10 more local followers to win using a similar contest format.

This week brought more recent winners to the pumps to claim free gas in our Summer Gas Challenge! New faces since our last post included Jerry, Rocio and Mary, along with repeat Sunday afternoon visits from Harrison and Guadalupe to wrap things up.

Even more exciting is that tomorrow could bring us another winner—not only in our Summer Gas Challenge, but also in our Labor Day Gas Challenge where one lucky follower could win up to $500 in cash if their gas price prediction matches AAA’s next published national average!

Sandy and I met at the gas station again today to claim some free gas after she matched AAA’s published gas price this morning!

Like both Harrison and Guadalupe (who also met with me again over the weekend), Sandy has become a regular on our page. But we’ve also added some fresh new faces to our list of winners (including Jennifer, Claire, Elvira and Bryant) who have all recently matched AAA in our Summer Gas Challenge.

While the Summer Gas Challenge continues to rack up winners for free gas, don’t forget that we’re also still looking for more entrants in our Labor Day Gas Challenge, where one lucky follower could win cash by correctly predicting AAA’s published gas price on Monday!

Today was another opportunity to meet with some recent winners and reward them for their accurate AAA gas price predictions!

First, it was Harrison back at the exact pump where we first met, claiming his second fill-up since this contest kicked off just a couple of weeks ago. With our Pride loyalty rewards, we filled his truck at just $3.589 per gallon…not too shabby!

Then it was across the street to meet with Mike, who claimed our final $50 lotto scratcher prize following his price match yesterday

Finally, it was back over to the Mobil to meet with Guadalupe, where I helped her also sign up for the Pride loyalty program before topping off her 2012 Toyota Camry. This isn’t Guadalupe’s first rodeo with us - you can find her on our page last September when she matched AAA and won $100!

While all of the lotto scratchers have been distributed, we’ll keep pumping until we’ve given away $1,000 in free gas or reach the end of September, whichever comes first.

And don’t forget, we’re also still looking for a winner in our Labor Day Gas Challenge, where one lucky follower could be meeting with me for a $500 cash payout!

Last weekend, Harrison and I met back up at the Pride Mobil gas station in Wheaton, where we first met in May before he won our Memorial Day Gas Challenge.

During our latest meeting, not only did he enter our new Labor Day Gas Challenge, but he also received his first promotional gas fill-up in his 2007 Chevy Avalanche. With its 31-gallon tank, we learned together that the Pride Loyalty Program 50¢-off promotion maxes out at 20 gallons—but we still saved $10 on his first fill-up with this excellent perk..

Although I’ve never watched “Tiger King” on Netflix, I couldn’t help but think of the “I am never going to recover financially from this” meme when I remembered that Harrison’s commute from his home in Round Lake Beach to his place of work in Wheaton is nearly 90 miles round trip in this beast of a vehicle. Since his truck has a thirsty V-8 engine rated at only 13–16 miles per gallon, something tells me we’ll be meeting again in the near future for another fill-up… and then probably a few more still before this promotion officially concludes next month.

That’s alright, though. I can’t think of a nicer gentleman to benefit from this offer. In fact, as soon as I sent him our picture at the pump, he took it upon himself to post it on his own page to help spread the word.
