You can play an important role by staying informed, participating directly in election administration when possible, and evaluating claims carefully before accepting or sharing them.

Know your candidates! Ballotpedia, the largest political encyclopedia in the country, has a sample ballot look up tool based on your address. Go to ballotpedia.org and enter your address. You will see a sample ballot and can look up additional information about the candidates.

Truth in elections takes more than taking information at face value. Read primary sources before sharing claims. When questions arise about elections, look for official court rulings, audit reports, election office statements, or inspector general findings rather than relying solely on social media or commentary.

Be a poll worker! A great way to observe the political process is to be a poll worker or election observer. Many jurisdictions recruit citizens from across the political spectrum to staff polling places or observe ballot counting.

Enjoy your Labor Day! Labor Day is an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.
