We are writing this with heavy hearts. This is to inform the Board of
Directors, active members, current and former staff, and volunteers that long-time member Robert (Bob) Fencl passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026. Bob was seriously injured in April and spent the time since his injury at the University Medical Center in Iowa City and Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. He passed due to complications from the injuries he suffered in April.
Bob was in the Navy and served aboard the USS Midway CV-41. He got his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Northern Iowa. He was a lifelong resident of Waterloo, Iowa. Bob Attended numerous events with the Chapter including the NVWG and Annual Fishing trip to Ely Minnesota.
Funeral services will be provided by Locke Funeral Services, 1519 W 4 th St, Waterloo, Iowa.
Visitation: Family to receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Locke at Tower Park, 4140 Kimball Ave, Waterloo, Iowa.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026, with military honors provided by the United States Navy and American Legion Becker Chapman Post #138.
Inurnment at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery to be held at a later date.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to Paralyzed Veterans of America.
