Grateful for our friends at Concepts Cares Foundation who believed in our vision from the very beginning! Today we gave them a private tour of our first property.

Come by this Sunday between 2-4pm for our open house and see all the work for yourself!

Our Concepts Cares Committee took a little field trip after our meeting today! Our friends are working on an incredible project in Windsor Heights! Their work and their story is truly incredible ❤️

They took a vacant house and turned it into a space 5 developmentally delayed adults will get to call home! Their work will give adults in need independence while still having access to the support they need. Seeing the before and after of this home was MIND BLOWING 🤯 it’s genuinely something you need to see to believe - and this weekend you can!

Applications are now open for prospective board members!

We're looking for individuals who are committed to disability rights and permanent supportive housing advocacy first and foremost. But we are also interested in folks who have experience in volunteer management, fundraising and event planning. Bonus points if you have hands on experience in home renovations :)

No previous board experience is required so if you have never been a member of a nonprofit board before - don't worry! We're a chill, supportive team and will show you the ropes!

Tackling our toughest portion of the renovation this week - the upstairs bath and kitchen (converting back to a bedroom). We’re 80% finished and hitting the home stretch! Very excited to host an open house for you all to stop by soon.

It’s no secret that there is a serious housing crisis not only in Iowa but across the nation. Funding for housing has been severely slashed, creating a steep, up-hill battle for organizations like ours.

Here’s a quick snapshot of the FY2026 budget cuts that impact housing:
44% reduction to HUD funds
($33 billion)
43% cut in rental assistance
($26 billion)
Elimination of the Community Development Block Grant
($3.3 billion)
Elimination of Home Investment Partnerships Program
($1.25 billion)

While Nancy’s Place has not received federal housing funds and operates solely on small-dollar donors & local grants, our clients in the disabled community rely on these funds for housing and services. This past year we opted to fundraise in a new way that was inclusive of the folks we serve and created space for other nonprofit partners to engage with the community.

We created FIGHT Pro Wrestling and hosted three action-packed pro-wrestling shows at the historic Bowen Roundhouse (Lincoln High School) and partnered with over 50 local organizations for a community resource fair at each event.

Hundreds of you filled the stands and helped Nancy’s Place not only raise over $10k for Build Lincoln Higher & LHS Athletics/Activities but also supported us as we secured of first ever rental property for individuals with disabilities!

We have converted this duplex back into a single family home with some fun stairwell demolition, returned the upstairs kitchen back into a bedroom, ripped out all of the flooring & have begun installation of new flooring, fixtures and bathrooms. Once complete, this house will become a new home that is walkable to many amenities and services our clients rely on!

We have made a ton of progress in this renovation but we need YOU to help us finish this project!

We have set a goal of $10,000 dollars this Giving Tuesday. These funds will provide us with the necessary resources to fully renovate two full bathrooms.

We hit a huge organizational milestone today! We picked up the keys to our first property. We’ll be doing some renovations in the next month and getting some folks settled in by the holidays.

Thanks to the City of Windsor Heights for this partnership. We look forward to housing more folks in this welcoming, accessible community.

And a huge shout out to our donors, volunteers, board members and organizational partners who have stuck with us over the past few years and believed in our long-term mission. We know this is the first of many more to come. The work continues!
