Elimisha Binti Initiative Education, care, and mentorship for girls who are deaf and hard of hearing in Kenya, Africa.

Elimisha Binti Initiative is a 501c3 Non-Profit organization serving the educational needs of bright and economically disadvantaged girls who are deaf and hard of hearing in Western Kenya, Africa. The initiative strives to sustain the girls in schools by offering scholarships, mentorship, supplying assistive technology including hearing aids, and providing personal hygiene items for the girls. We

envision a future where girls who are deaf and hard of hearing can reach their full potential and sustain their livelihoods through engagement in formal or self employment, and to practice their human and civil rights in the community through self and joint advocacy. Our inspiration stems from the success of a number of persons who are deaf and hard of hearing, and who have gone through formal schooling and work in both public and private agencies and have demonstrated excellent leadership and advocacy amongst the deaf and hard of hearing community. Given an opportunity at formal schooling or vocational training, students who are deaf and hard of hearing have immeasurable abilities to achieve their goals and be productive members of the community. It is for this reason that we aim to make education a reality for this group of learners. Vision: We envision a world where girls and women who are deaf and hard of hearing are academically, economically, and civically empowered to promote their equal participation in society. Mission: To foster access and equity in formal education for girls who are hearing impaired through scholarship programs and mentorship. Goals:

Provide annual scholarships to students who are deaf and hard of hearing,
Provide assistive technology in the form of hearing aids to the girls as needed,
Offer continuous mentorship and promote sisterhood amongst the deaf and hard of hearing women and girls. Our Core Values

Accountability: We take responsibility for the work that we do and monitor our impact on students who are deaf and hard of hearing from the time we take them in, to the time they become independent individuals in the community. Partnership: We partner with our students, their communities, and other stakeholders to advance our vision and mission. Compassion: We empathize and walk in the shoes of our students as they navigate school and life through mentorship and advocacy.

Christian mentorship has become one of the greatest pillars of Elimisha Binti Initiative. 💕🙏🏾

Beyond supporting our girls with tuition, we are committed to nurturing their faith through mentorship, prayer, and the distribution of Bibles. 📖✨

Our summer visits were truly fulfilling, and our hearts are full seeing the impact we are making—one girl at a time.

Educating. Mentoring. Empowering. Sharing Christ. 💕

Christian Mentorship: Nurturing Faith Alongside Education 🙏🏾❤️

Christian mentorship has become one of the greatest pillars of our work at Elimisha Binti Initiative.

Our commitment to the girls goes beyond meeting their tuition and educational needs. We also want to nurture their faith, remind them of their God-given worth, and ensure that they have access to the Word of God. As part of this commitment, we distribute Bibles and intentionally incorporate Christian mentorship into our visits and relationships with the girls.

This summer, we had the wonderful opportunity to visit the girls, spend time with them, encourage them, listen to their stories, and share in fellowship. The visits went incredibly well, and our hearts are full as we reflect on what was accomplished. 🙏🏾

For us, education and faith walk hand in hand. We want every girl we support to know that she is more than her circumstances and more than her disability. She is loved, valued, created with purpose, and capable of becoming everything God has called her to be.

We are grateful to everyone who continues to support this mission. Together, we are not only helping girls access education—we are investing in their minds, their futures, and their faith. ❤️

Educate. Mentor. Empower. Share the hope of Christ.

Our hearts are so full today! 😊🙏🏾

So proud to see our founder and CEO on the KBC Morning Show, speaking about girls with disabilities, inclusion, and education advocacy.

What started as a small mission to support overlooked girls has grown into a platform of hope, opportunity, and change.

We continue to champion a world where girls with disabilities are seen for their abilities, given access to quality education, and empowered to dream without limits.

One girl. One opportunity. One conversation at a time. 💕

Grateful to KBC and everyone supporting this journey. There’s still more to do—but today, we celebrate this milestone. 🙏🏾✨

To God be the glory!

There are stories we read, and then there are stories that awaken something within us. When The Chrysalis Turns Dark is one of those rare works that does both—unsettling and uplifting in equal measure.

In this deeply moving memoir, Dr. Winnie Koko invites us into the hidden corridors of her life—spaces marked by poverty, silence, abuse, and survival. She does not soften the truth, nor does she rush past the pain. Instead, she bears witness to it with remarkable honesty, giving voice to experiences that many endure but few are able to articulate. From the quiet normalization of suffering in childhood to the unspoken wounds carried into adulthood, this book confronts realities that demand to be seen and acknowledged.

Yet, this is not a story of despair. It is a story of transformation. The metaphor of the chrysalis is both fitting and profound. In nature, transformation requires darkness—a season of confinement before emergence. So it is with this narrative. What appears as breaking becomes becoming. What feels like silence gives birth to voice. And what begins in pain unfolds into purpose.

Dr. Koko’s journey—from a childhood shaped by hardship in Kenya to academic and professional accomplishment in the United States—reflects not only resilience, but divine orchestration. Her story reminds us that even in life’s most uncertain seasons, there is a greater hand at work, shaping, refining, and guiding us toward purpose.

What elevates this memoir is the author’s courageous decision to claim her story fully. No longer hidden behind fiction or distance, she writes with clarity, ownership, and truth. In doing so, she transforms personal history into a powerful testimony—one that speaks not only for herself, but for countless others whose voices remain unheard.

This book is both a mirror and a call. A mirror that reflects the realities we often avoid. A call to confront, to feel, and ultimately, to rise.

When The Chrysalis Turns Dark is not merely a memoir—it is an invitation to witness the power of becoming. It reminds us that darkness is not the end of the story, but often the very place where transformation begins.
