Plant Sale details at bit.ly/hcmga-plant-sale. Today's featured plant is Lantana, Dallas Red. It is a tough, heat-loving perennial best known for its vibrant cluster of flowers that open as golden-orange and gradually change to bright red. The blooms from late spring to first frost bring crowds of butterflies. It is drought-tolerant, deer resistant, and thrives in full sun. It will range from two to four feet tall and up to five feet wide so plan for plenty of room between plants or prune to control width. If it dies back after a freeze, prune and it will come back by late spring. Photo by Master Gardener T. Rigdon. Stay tuned for daily featured plant posts.

Plant Sale details at bit.ly/hcmga-plant-sale. Today's featured tree is the fast-growing Southern Catalpa, a deciduous shade tree known for its showy white flowers and long, bean-like seed pods. It will reach heights of 25 to 40 feet with large heart-shaped leaves. The blossoms, similar to orchids with purple and yellow markings, make their appearance in late spring. Catalpa will grow in partial shade and will adapt to dry conditions once established. Although not a Texas native it is easily naturalized.
