The nickname, "Project 2025," is just a handy way to refer to a whole set of ideas that a number of states with supermajority Republican legislatures have already been enacting at the state level. The Heritage Foundation document is full of plans to take these ideas and more to the national level – with specific plans of who to hire to implement the plans in 2025 ifTrump or another conservative president is elected and a $22 million budget to implement the changes.
Texas and other states have banned books in school libraries; effectively banned abortion even in the case of r**e, in**st, or the health and well-being of the mother; gave parents the right to deny birth control for their daughters; made it harder to vote; taken local control away from cities, towns, and counties to regulate a number of things that directly affect their residents (fracking is one); rejected federal money to feed hungry school kids in the summer months; passed a law allowing the Secretary of State to overturn the results of elections in Harris County…
Here are examples of how some states are already working to implement the extreme policies outlined in Project 2025.
