The 2026 NC State Fair was one to remember for these Wilson County kiddos! 🎡

We had a total of 32 youth participate this year, with lots of success across multiple barns! Over the next few days, I am going to take some time to recognize and celebrate our kids by species and highlight all of their hard work!

First up, our Hog Show participants! We had the largest group of Wilson County kids in the hog barn this year, and they sure made their mark! From all the time spent working with their pigs at home to the hours in the barn, these kids put in the work, and it showed!

Congratulations to each of you on a job well done! Your work ethic, dedication, and attention to detail are skills that will take you far beyond the show ring. I am proud of each of you and can't wait to see what you accomplish next!

Calling all 4-H Livestock Volunteers!

We encourage our Wilson County 4-H Livestock Volunteers to take advantage of this upcoming educational training series offered through NC Cooperative Extension!

Whether you are new to the livestock program or have years of experience, these sessions are a great opportunity to learn more about youth livestock programs, showing livestock, available contests, and ways to better support our 4-H members.

The 2026-2027 training series will cover:

December 8: Introduction to the Youth Livestock Program

January 13: Showing Livestock and What It Entails

February 10: Additional Youth Livestock Opportunities

March 16-17: Hands-On Livestock Program Training (in-person in Raleigh)

We hope our volunteers will take advantage of these opportunities to continue learning, building their knowledge, and strengthening the support we provide to our youth!

4-Her Spotlight! 🍀

I had the privilege of being at the Edgecombe County Circuit Show this weekend, and I was highly impressed by the number of Wilson County kids I saw in the show ring! So, I wanted to take a minute to brag on some of our Wilson County 4-Hers who got out there, showed their animals, and represented Wilson County well!

These kids have been working hard and using these ECSC shows as preparation for the NC State Fair, and it is always exciting to see them gaining experience and putting what they have been practicing to work in the show ring.

Congratulations to these kiddos on a job well done this weekend! We are proud of y’all! 👏🏼

And I have to say — when you look at all of the counties participating in the circuit, Wilson County has a whole lot of kids out there! It makes me proud to see so many of our 4-Hers getting involved, gaining experience, and representing Wilson County. 💚🍀
