Open Post Ranch is a 501c3 nonprofit retirement sanctuary for senior, at risk and overlooked horses and dogs.

Our mission is to give a forever home to animals that need a safe place to land that otherwise may not have a chance at a happy ending.

Tom with Hoofin it Farriers was out last Wednesday to do our trims. He managed to get a frog off in one nice neat piece off of Snickers. We never know what will happen around here.
All of our horses are barefoot and get trims every four to six weeks depending on the season. Keeping up with their feet is a very important part of their overall heath.

We had quite the visiter for a few days now. She has moved around to a few different places. As long as she eats the bugs she is welcome to stay.
I did do a little checking and she is safe.

Absolutely love this goofy face.♥️

Badger got a saltwater fish hook stuck in his cheek as a youngster leaving a hole in his cheek and part of his tongue numb.It is something that could possibly have been fixed when it happened but he does well with everything as is now. He does wipe his face on his legs so we do need to wash him daily.

sssshhh don’t tell our board members we took in a zebra!

Misti has a birth defect in her mouth that causes her to be a bit slobbery when she eats. She tends to get some of that on her body which attracts flies so we thought a new fly sheet will help her a bit. Do you like her new look???

A 12 Year Young Gentleman Searching for His Soft Landing 🐾💛

Rosco didn’t arrive at the shelter because he did anything wrong. In mid March, this sweet senior boy was lovingly surrendered when his owner who could no longer physically care for him due to age and health challenges. It was a heartbreaking decision rooted in love, and Rosco is now hoping someone out there has room in their heart and home for a gentle old soul who still has so much affection to give.

At 12 years young, Rosco is the definition of calm, wise companionship. Volunteers say he walks beautifully on leash, takes his time sniffing the world, and moves with the easy grace of a dog who knows what truly matters in life: sunshine, quiet moments, and kind hands.

Rosco has a good history with other dogs and meets new people kindly. He’s house trained, leash trained, and has lived his whole life being someone’s loyal companion. Now, he’s simply hoping for a soft, warm, loving place to spend the beautiful years he still has ahead.

If your home has room for a a gentle friend who asks for very little but gives back a world of love, Rosco is waiting for you.

Barney and Millie each had their yearly vet appointments last week.

Barney went in Wednesday. He is extremely nervous about the vet so he got the chill protocol which really seemed to work good, they even got his nails trimmed. Overall he is still in good shape, just a minor ear infection.

Millie went in on Thursday. She is also not a fan of the vet but she did much better then last time. She only barked a couple of times, compared to the whole time last year. There is a little infection in her eye so we are trying to get drops in. Lots of treats are helping.

Between shots, medication, heartguard and nexguard it added up pretty quickly.
