West Valley Volunteer Fire Department wants to wish everyone a safe and fun 4th of July. This is a special one, celebrating 250 Years and there will be lots of fireworks around. On that note, please be careful if you are going to be shooting fireworks with friends and family. The statistics below remind us just how dangerous these beautiful, fun fireworks can be. The photo attached are images of horrific hand injuries resulting from mishandling fireworks.

In 2024, over 14,700 people were treated in emergency rooms for fireworks-related injuries in the U.S., with 11 reported deaths Vanderbilt University Medical CenterVanderbilt University Medical Center.
The most common injuries were burns (37%), with the head, face, and ears being the most frequently injured body parts (22%). Additionally, 36% of injuries affected the hands and fingers Vanderbilt University Medical CenterVanderbilt University Medical Center+1.
Sparklers, often perceived as safe, accounted for 1,700 ER visits in 2024, and they burn at temperatures around 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, capable of causing severe burns Vanderbilt University Medical CenterVanderbilt University Medical Center.

Common Types of Injuries

Burns: Hands, face, arms, and legs are the most commonly burned areas.
Eye Injuries: Debris or sparks can cause corneal abrasions, burns, or even vision loss.
Hearing Damage: Loud explosions can lead to temporary or permanent hearing loss.
Trauma: Injuries from projectiles or misfired fireworks can result in serious trauma, particularly to children Stony Brook MedicineStony Brook Medicine+1.

We had a great day at West Valley Volunteer Fire Dept and a very successful open house. We got to spend time with our great crew and wonderful supporters of our department.

Good evening everyone its been brought to my attention about post and news media saying that West Valley Volunteer Fire Dept was helping with the retrieval out at Bolt Farms and I gave interviews to the press and that's far from the truth, Im out of town working and have not talked to anyone on this matter. Im in the process of finding out were this news sources have came from. I apologize from any confusion that has resulted from these post.
