In light of recent online conversations, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the incredible impact our participants with Down syndrome have on our organization, both onstage and off.

Stepping Stone Community Theater – 2026 Season FAQ
🎭 SpongeBob the Musical: Youth Edition

We’re excited to announce our 2026 production and can’t wait to welcome new and returning performers!

What show are you doing this season?
Our 2026 production is SpongeBob the Musical: Youth Edition! It’s a fun, energetic show full of great music and colorful characters.

Who can participate?
Stepping Stone welcomes people with disabilities and actors from the local community to participate. Our program is designed for performers ages 16+, even though the show itself is the Youth Edition.

What makes Stepping Stone unique?
Our mission is to create meaningful theater experiences for actors with disabilities. We work to provide accommodations and supports so everyone can participate fully and comfortably in the production.

When are rehearsals?
Rehearsals will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6–8 PM, beginning March 31 at The Whitin Mill.

When are the performances?
Show dates are June 25–27 at Doherty Memorial High School in Worcester.

What should I prepare for auditions?
Audition materials will be released early this week if you’d like to prepare something. However, there’s no pressure to prepare in advance! Our Music Director will also teach everyone an ensemble piece during auditions.

Do you offer accommodations?
Yes! We strive to create an inclusive environment and will work with participants to provide appropriate accommodations whenever possible.

Do you provide transportation?
While Stepping Stone is happy to help support actors during rehearsals and performances, we are not able to assist with transportation to and from rehearsals.

I want to help but don’t want to be on stage. Can I volunteer?
Absolutely! Volunteers are a vital part of our program. They support our actors with disabilities both on and off stage and help make the entire production possible.

Stepping Stone isn’t just a three month commitment with a show at the end of it all.

It’s also joining a family and being a part of something bigger than yourself.

It’s a network of people coming together in times of celebration and times where support is needed.
