🏡💚 Construction has officially begun on Cristian’s new home!

This is one of my personal favorite FNE International programs, and our Berkeley volunteers got to spend the day helping kick off the build.

This is also one of those moments where our programs come full circle. Cristian has been part of our Salud Para Todos Los Niños (SPTLN) program for the past five years, and now we have the privilege of walking alongside his family as they begin this next chapter.

Swipe to the last photo to see Cristian and his family’s home before construction began. We’ll be back with an update once the house is finished… though if you’ve ever worked on a construction project, you know “a few weeks” can mean a few different things. 😉 It’ll be worth the wait!

What makes this program so special is that these homes are built to last. They’re designed to give families a safe, secure place to call home while also leaving room for the future.

Every home is meant to be a starting point. Families can make it their own, decorate it, and as life changes or their family grows, they can come back to FNE International to build an addition and continue growing alongside their home.

We can’t wait to share the finished project with you. Stay tuned! 🏠✨

This is Christan’s home❤️

Cristian’s current home is made from a mix of different materials. Two of the rooms are enclosed with plastic sheeting and are home to two beds shared by the family.

None of these materials are built to withstand Nicaragua’s rainy season.

With gaps in the walls and a home built from flimsy materials, the rainy season is one of the hardest times of year for families like Cristian’s.

And that, along with all the other stability a home provides, is what we’re hoping to give Cristian, his mom, his brother, his sister-in-law, and their six-month-old nephew.

Meet Hazel, Violet, Tessa, and Maia! 🇳🇮⚽️

These four friends and Berkeley High students are spending part of their summer volunteering with FNE International in Chacraseca, Nicaragua.

They’ve already jumped right in! So far, they’ve worked at Finca Girasol, spent time at the school and in the library, celebrated Max’s second birthday, led a soccer camp for local kids, joined us for our July Salud Para Todos Los Niños (SPTLN) medical brigade, shared everyday life with their host families, made new friends, and laughed a whole lot along the way. 💛

We’re so happy to have Hazel, Violet, Tessa, and Maia with us this summer and can’t wait to share more from their time in Chacraseca! 🇳🇮

At Finca Girasol, learning doesn’t just happen in a classroom.
Children are discovering where food comes from by collecting seeds, preparing soil, planting seedlings, and caring for what they grow. Along the way, they’re learning science, responsibility, patience, and the value of caring for the environment.
Because when you teach a child to grow something, you’re helping grow their future. 🌱 💚

In moments like these, generosity can travel farther than we ever could. Every contribution (large or small) helps families begin the long road to recovery. 🇻🇪💚

The world’s best players are competing on soccer’s biggest stage. ⚽️
Meanwhile, in places like Tipón or Huacahuasi, at 13,000 feet above sea level, future stars are playing with a built-in altitude advantage. 😅
Talent is everywhere. Opportunity should be too.
Every child deserves the chance to develop their gifts: whether that leads to a World Cup stadium or simply a brighter future 🌟

There’s nothing normal about women traveling hours for a basic exam or prevention depending on geography. ⛰️

This past week, students from Project MESA (University of Michigan) partnered with local health workers in Peru to test and improve a portable gynecological table designed for rural communities, helping make cervical cancer screenings more accessible where healthcare infrastructure is limited. 🌟

What stood out most wasn’t just the innovation, but the collaboration: doctors, nurses, students, and community members building solutions together.💚

And yes… there were lots of screws, sunscreen, long clinic days, and reminders of why prevention saves lives 🌺

Motherhood is planting hope in difficult ground. 🌱
It’s carrying traditions, feeding families, adapting to changing climates, and still finding ways to build a future for your children.
In communities like Huacahuasi, mothers are not only caregivers. They are farmers, protectors, teachers, and the reason entire families keep moving forward.
Yesterday we celebrated mothers. Today we honor the work that continues long after the day is over. 💚

Innovation means the most when it is built with purpose. 💚
This week, students from BlueLab (University of Michigan) are in Nicaragua working hands-on to design and build an adapted chair for children with cerebral palsy like Jose 🥰 , combining engineering, creativity, and compassion to create something practical, dignifying, and deeply needed.
Through a sustainable and socially engaged design process, these future changemakers are learning that impact is not just about building solutions, but building alongside communities. We’re grateful to partner with people willing to listen first, learn deeply, and use their skills in service of others.🌟
